Been a gamer since c-64 days I seen it all.

My son has PS4 but to be honest it does not attract me for several reasons.
I'm not so impressed in the games released for it. I think by far PS2 was the most creative version and games like guitar hero where released there.
I hate the fact that you need a yearly subscribtion to play online with PS4.
For mothern gaming I'm using windows stationary computer with Nvidia gfx.

There are many gaming geners and I miss many of them. Where are the only good space shooter games like r-type.
There been some adventure games released the last years like The Cave but way to
few.

All kind of simulators will always be best when they look and feel more and more real.
I played Dirt rally a lot and it is never been anything like it I think.

One of the great games the last years is Rocket League. It is something special and goes in as on of my all time favorites.

All that said I miss the way lot's of the amiga games where done.
The easy come and play no mess around max 2 button joysticks.
I think platform, puzzle games works much better with 2 button and 2D pixel gfx.
I also think that arcade style sports games like they did SWOS is much more
fun and more easy to get into for most. I did mention Rocket League but that game
is way to advanced for most and unless you like to spend countless of hours like I did
it is no way to be good at that game.

FIFA football series is great but more of a kind of simulation and very advanced to controll if you like to be good. Not as difficult as Rocket League but almost.

Thankfully we got a new game for Amiga this year called "Worthy" and I had a lot of fun with that one.
Amazing what people can do with that kind of low budget.

I hope we will see a retro platform again that people like to buy. Market is as new retro platform and "remember when gaming was fun"
I think with the Vampire or AROS running on Raspberry Pi it could be possible.

Plug it into your TV insert your game into the USB port. Turn it on and play right away.

@nikosidis

Ill be honest, and say; Steam on Wintel, has been my go-to for a long time.

That said, my current Wintel got zero games on it (relatively recent move), unless you count flight simulator as a game (I use it for training/work related).

So, Ive given it some thought lately, and going forward I think Amiga/Vampire will be my gaming platform, mostly because of the RTG/AGA performance to come with Gold 3.
It also contain some of the best games (nostalgica) that are quick to pick up, and quick to quit.

Also, with the Vampire, C64 emulation can be used on that platform, altho Wintel emulators are better suited for that.

TLDR: Amiga / Vampire.

@Overflow

Me too. Steam on Wintel I used a lot. I have Rocket League and Dirt Rally there that I love together with many other games that mostly don't interest me.

Me and my son played guitar hero on PS2 a lot lately. When we went to vacation in Greece this summer they had Guitar Hero arcade mashine that where popular and we played every night.

When standalone version of Vampire is ready I will buy it. Hope people will develop games for it.
I would say that since we see a game company like pixelglass that do games for Amiga we already have that. I already preordered AlarCity. That game looks like a lot's of fun. Kind of like space shooter with a different twist.

Mostly Windows/Steam

I also got a PS3 and a Wii that I use more rarely as time goes on, even if I still have plenty of games to play on them.

Sometimes I play something retro using emulators on Windows (Mostly WinUae)

I plan to buy a PS4 at the end of it's living cycle just for it's exclusives and a Vampire V4 Standalone to play Amiga classics and hypotetical new games on it.

Good :)
Then we are already 3 that love classic gaming and will buy the vampire.
We already see that the potential is huge!!

The only problem I see for selling Vampire to the mass market is that it will probably be to expensive.

I don't play that many games any more, but there are a few I play regularly, mostly simulator games and a few RPG's. I don't miss the simpler games, I actually enjoy games that require patience and a time investment - e.g. Farming Simulator, Cities Skylines, X-Plane, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Witcher 3 etc.

I play on a Windows 10 PC running a Ryzen CPU and GTX 1070. I've never owned a console, I went from a C64 to an Amiga 1200 and then over to various Windows PC's over the years.

@nikosidis

The PS2 was the most varied and creative version of the PlayStation. SingStar, Buzz, Dancing Stage / Dance Factory heck even lightgun games (remember them) and of course Music Generator 2 and Music 3000. And that's not even mentioning regular games like Outrun 2006, Black and Spiderman 2!

The PS3 gets a mention because it can use the PS2 SingStar discs and has access to the SingStar webstore so it is the ultimate machine for karaoke! The PS4 fell over majorly here by not allowing the use of the old discs Plus Resogun, Super Stardust HD, Sega Rally and Split Second: Velocity are all exceptional. Alien Isolation is also awesome though a bit too long (the androids are boring).

The Amiga with null modem connection to another Amiga trumps it though! The games to play:

Blitz Bombers, Xtreme Racing, Lotus 2, Alien Breed 3D, Knights of the Sky and Napalm

@BigD

Yes, I agree 100%
PS2 where by far the most creative and fun.
It is like the game makers has 0 creativity these days.
80% of the games are first person shooters.

I think in many ways that is why lots of people are going back to retro gaming.
People miss 2D platform games like Super Mario.
There are some great 2D platform games made recent years but the controller mess is what I hate.
Why use all the buttons on the pad. I miss simplicity.
Best example is pacman. Even girls played that game.

Even worse is how things evolved with online gaming make you buy this and that for upgrades etc.

Online gaming can be cool but when I have bought a game I don't like when they try to suck more out of me and at least not when that give you advantages.

In Rocket league there are different cars you can buy but at least they are not better that the standard cars and that is kind of ok.

Xtreme Racing!! That game we played a lot in the old days!! Talking about it makes me want to play it again soon :)

@nikosidis

Well, 3D games make ME motion sick, so I can't be a "gamer" since its hard to play video games when you are dizzy and nauseous.

I have kept my CD32 though, and the fact that that platform still sees the occasional new release is amuzing.

Personally, my video game platform of choice? An old 1980's arcade Galaga unit.
That's challenging and it doesn't make me want to vomit.

My platform(s) of choice are the 8-bit NES, Sega Genesis, Super NES, Turbo Duo, N64, and Gamecube. I run all of these through a Framemeister. Thinking about getting a SCART to HDMI cable for my A1200 and using it with the FM when I get my A4000 motherboards repaired.

Right now? My cheap laptop (Core i3/Intel HD Graphics/Windows10). As I play mostly good old games, it suffices for nearly all my needs in this regard.

Even though I have a spare room stuffed with about 30 different machines from an Atari 2600 all the way through to a Modern day Xbox One and most other stuff in between, My main gaming machine is actually my X5000. From classic Amiga Games to Next Generation titles to emulation of quite a few of the systems I own it’s a versatile workhorse.

Been playing Virtual Grand Prix 2 this week too on MorphOS which I didn’t realise you could download for free either. I even found time to do a blog post on it too
