| Hi
Is there any way to speed up network speed. Downloading is very slow compared to windows side. Or this a limitation of winuae and ppc emulation Last edited by g01df1sh on 27-Sep-2018 at 11:27 PM.

Well your emulating a Power CPU, and it has to do all the work.
I believe the TCP CRC calculation is also done only on the CPU on AmigaOS, but some PC network cards is able to offload the CRC calculation to network cards. But that is not supported on AmigaOS.
Plus the SANA2 interface that Amiga uses, depends on copy data around (instead of just sorting packages to it destination, and reassigning ownership.) it is pretty stupid design.
Things like SFTP, HTTPS is encrypted packages that PowerPC CPU has to de-crypt and encrypt.
And as for web pages this are loaded with Javascripts that on the PC side is compiled into efficient code, but on Amiga side is interpreted slowly. (AmigaOS has no JIT support for Javascript)

It is slow since network emulation uses the Ariadne card emulation. You won't go higher than 5Mbs. _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

I´m no expert, but network speed of the WinUAE/PPC guest is really slooooooooow in comparison to WinUAE/68k guest. That is a fact. |

Ariadne driver don't know its dealing with emulated hardware. it probably expects the same timing response as does on the real hardware.
Normally in UAE, bsdsocket.library is loaded in by WinUAE, so the program access the bsdsocket.library and don't know anything about the hardware.
I think is should be possible do the same for AmigaOS4, it be lot faster than having to emulate hardware, I think way its not done, now is because the its different CPU core being emulated, the original implementation on old 68K CPU emulation, that is not used with AmigaOS4.1 because it has own Jit compiler for 68K.
generally how the emulation will get triggered is by having special illegal opcode, but it will need to be worked into PowerPC cpu emulation code.
