Yes, I've set off an automated firework display with an Amiga
It's possible but the X1000 / X5000 's Xorro is best
No, the Amiga is just a games machine
No, I offered to use my A500 to cable up to some explosives but the local police had issue
No, it was all ready to go but the funding wasn't there

It's nearly Guy Fawkes night / Firework Night in the UK; the night we celebrate the Houses of Parliament NOT getting blown up in 1605 by setting off lots of fireworks and gathering round big fires!

My wife has been invited to have some input into the soundtrack for this years church firework display and while I don't feel qualified I was wondering if the Amiga has ever been used as a controller for one of those automated electronic firework display control boxes?

I guess that would be the sort of thing that the Xorro slot in the AmigaOne 1000 / 5000 is supposed to be good at? Would need a Xorro board and software but a cool project for someone. It would need to be a bright 'spark' and they'd need to keep their 'powder dry' but would quickly 'rocket' up the Xorro expansion board sales chart should their product make an 'big bang' on the Amiga scene

I guess that's a no. I know that Amigas have been used for live music but what's to stop a X1000 or X5000 being used for fireworks or a light show? How would you turn a Xorro project board into a controller that could interface with fireworks or fountain lights etc?

@Thread

Nighthawk systems cost upwards of $6,000.

Surely we could undercut that with a X1000/X5000 and Xorro board hooked up to the controller boxes?

I wonder if a certified Real time OS is needed for such a task? One which can not crash.

I would not want to remember, remember the 5th of November when Amiga burned the parliament into a pot of cinder

Not done a Firework display, but did a realtime interactive multimedia
display in a local store for a few years. ( approx 15 years ago ).

I used an A3000 with VlabMotion/ Toccata, Cyberstorm 060, SCSI 2 128 Mb ram
2 Hdds, one for Vlab and other for OS + stuff and 2 IR motion detectors plugged
into the Paralell Port.

With core program running ( Blitz 2 ), and some Arex coding, it was able to
capture realtime Video / Audio and bung it all together with pre created Anim
files.

Some sequences were triggered by the motion detectors, some by time and some by the Store Staff via keyboard.

Passed most of my Amiga stuff to Lincs Amiga User Group some years ago,

now only got My A4000 T

Last time I saw an Amiga in professional use was running the light board for a travelling broadway show (Andrew Lloyd Webber.) Not sure what interfaces and protocols they were using.

My thought would be to trigger the fireworks circuits from MIDI. That would allow you to use any Amiga with MIDI controller and MIDI sequencer software.
