FreeBSD on AmigaOne X5000

Hello,

I have been trying to install FreeBSD on my X5000 for some time now. It seems to elude me as to how to do it. There doesn't seem to be a lot of good documentation about the X5000 or FreeBSD on this. I thought that I could just force it on there by compiling the userland and kernel and then install it on a thumb drive and boot with:

load usb 0:1 0x3ffffc0 kernel.uImage
load usb 0:1 3000000 cyrus_p5020_amiga2.dtb
bootm 0x3ffffc0 - 3000000

This may have been successful, but I can't say for sure. As soon as it left uboot, the screen went black. However, the lights on the keyboard flashed and it appear to initialize other hardware. I guess that I could setup networking and sshd on the thumb drive, still, there must be a way to initialize the video.

Has anyone successfully setup FreeBSD on an X5000? Is video working, or is this a known issue?

I would really like to setup several X5000s with FreeBSD to use as servers.

Thanks in advance,
Al

@Al89

I would start to visit this place for Linux on the AmigaOne X5000

@Skateman

I have taken a look at: http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.com/viewforum.php?f=58 and did a lot of heavy reading, but there didn't seem to be too much there that helped me except, yes, indeed it does confirm suspicion of it not initializing the video.

The question is, do I need to update my uboot to boot FreeBSD? You talk about updating uboot here: http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=3948&start=20
The link for the new uboot is not working.

The second question is, how do I use 'ubldr'. I can't find any useful documentation.

Also, I would ask on forum.hyperion-entertainment.com, but they will not approve my account. So, I guess I am stuck.

Thanks!

@Al89

I have no experience with Free BSD, only with problems I read about it, on PPC. But I am wondering how you pass boot args to Free BSD? A problem on Linux was the terminal console and if not set then things like a blank screen could result. Does BSD use some similar kind of console?

Another thing I read is the kernel needs to be booted from a 64MB aligned address from the thread listed below.

Also, I take it you read this BSD thread? Somehow they got it here working.
