@QBit

The demos was amazing, even if it was just AGA/OCS stuff.

but even so I wish there was some AmigaONE demos as well.

Well at least they were allowed to use 16:9 resolution, even if 16:9 is probably not Amiga. I'm amazed they are allowed to use accelerator cards.

If you want to see AmigaONE demos, then you probably have to make them yourself, as no-one else seems interested in them.

It's not about being allowed, they just had the option of cropping the picture to fill the whole screen (which is in 16:9) if the demo happened to be using that aspect ratio.

You're not really familiar with the Amiga demoscene, are you?

Amazing Amiga Demos this year, and I also loved the Spaceballs 64k intro!

I have watched some of the entrys now and i must say that it's time to bring in a new category.
We have all seen this same old stuff and are quite bored of it by now.
What we need is a category for vampire powered demos.
It could help boost the entire demo scene if it was blessed with vampire love and power.
The scene need to evolve.

Just start making those vampire demos then, if there's enough quality releases I'm pretty sure it could get it's own category ;)

@Britelite

I'm too old to waste my life on this shit and go to partys etc... and party organizers need to upgrade their equipment and introduce this new category before we can see this revolution.
Besides, coding demos is NOT my strong skill or a hobby of mine.
I like watching demos tough, but we need some real injection now to not loose it. Something like the vampire.

No, people need to make demos for the platform first, then there might be a new category. For example last year coders flooded the Wild compo with 256 byte intros, and this year they got their own category. That's how it works.

And still no coders are asking for a vampire category, funny that...

@monstercoder

I have a Vampire, and I enjoy it.

THAT said; Like Britelite alluded to; if you want a demo (or anything) for xyz hardware, you probably have to code it yourself. Especially what amounts to a Retroplatform.

Many (most?) of these developers probably work on monster PCs in their daily work, be it in productivity, science or developing the next AAA game on Wintel.

I can totally see why they enjoy pushing the limits on their childhood hardware/toys, be it Amiga, Amstrad, C64, Speccy etc.

Whatever makes their retroexpirience fun and challenging. At work im sure they for the most part can just throw more raw horsepower on a problem. Not with a stock A500.

Then it requires ingenuity, and thats something I appriciate and love to watch ^^

The scene is filled with assholes that whats to stick their dicks into the same old assholes as always. New blood is not welcome.
That needs to change somewhere.
The vampire is great at bringing in newOld blood but the asshole circle must be broken first.
The team behind the vampire have penetrated lots of areas already but this scene is hard as they spit on everything new and make people feel very unwelcome.

I think you'd feel more at home on 4chan. Can't report your post for some reason but can give this advice: please grow up or/and shut up.

16:9 on Amiga just makes it easier for coders, because they don't have to fill the whole screen. It looks better on the big screen at the event, but feels like cheating for anything else :)

Demoscene has always went with the most powerful machines in the past. 68030/50MHz became the standard for Amiga demos around 1995 or so, and 68060 has been the standard since around 1998.

The reason why scene hasn't adapted to PPC or Vampire is because they're not generally as common as the previous accelerators, they're just too marginal niche to get the audience and developers.

Nevertheless the Revision party has noted the existence of these options, and the rules tell:

- PPC Amiga entries are accepted for the Wild Compo. We do have AmigaOS4/MorphOS hardware but please contact us in advance if you need them.
- Entries which require Vampire/Apollo/other FPGA accelerators are accepted for the Wild Compo, and you must provide your own hardware for recording.

So, as said, if people would push enough demos for these platforms to the Wild Compo, they would most likely raised as their own compo next year, or maybe included in the Amiga compo. There's already huge speed differences between 000 and 060, and audience has to keep that in mind when voting, so why not allow other Amiga things there too? But the coders have to show it first that there's enough activity on these platforms.
