So the X1000 started a bit earlier than I thought and there was some beef between PaSemi and Varisys ("previous minor payment dispute") added to the mix.

Still lots of "DeadEnd" signs that would have made anybody just seeing it as business cancel the project.

Now I do understand why you went on with it and I'd even say that you learned some of it's lessons when doing the X5000 (still to much of "everything and the doorbell" but thats just IMO) so it was (and still is) so much surprising that Tabor was/is done in the way it is.

Sure it might work in the end, but just think about what the time/resources used by that trampoline-code could have done to other related projects.

Hence me having issue with some people trying to paint you as the next Steve Jobs/Jack Tramiel/etc.


I would really like to be able to buy a (near) fanless PPC desktop, preferable in a small form factor but Tabor just isn't cutting it in the way it was done.

The data comes from Aaron at AOTL who is a USA Amiga retailer and represents all of his sales of AmigaOne X5000 systems.

Nice to see such an interest from the outside of the Amiga bubble. I´m sure lower priced hardware (Tabor) will be even more appealing.

That means a fourth of the US buyers never owned an Amiga before.

Well the only way the community can increases, is people where confident that AmigaOS works, and to do that we need to be able to JAIL buggy / resource hungry programs like web browsers. We need hypervisor layer, and we need AMP and AMP+SMP, and we need lots of drivers, or we need to start thinking differently about drivers, standardize on chipsets limit workloads for developers, another possibility build virtualized layers, that might have access to hardware layers like USB or PCIe, use none native drivers. All that can be possible with a hypervisor layer,

so I think hypervisor layer, should be priority one.
And then guest operating systems.

Guest operating system might also include different version of AmigaOS with incompatible changes.

Regardless of the wider applicability of the data, and if the method used was how good, it is still an interesting piece of knowledge, which could suggest we already have a much bigger market than we are expecting there to be.

Something of an 'outsider' in the goings on of new hardware these days, and boy am I glad. Five years ago the prototype boards were made? The interview mentions years of 2012, 2015, 2016 as if they were weeks ago. There is slow, then there is slowwwww.

It is a long time in real life but an eternity in computers. It is little wonder so many "NG" users are getting bored. I turned out of it a long time ago and for the sake of
my sanity I'm glad I did. I will continue to use my A1200 running 3.x in the meantime.
If an affordable machine comes along one day so I can finally retire it, then great.
