X5000 dual display question

Hello,

While doing some web app development on PC I used to have two monitor attached, so now it's not easy to do same work with one monitor attached to X5000.

My current video adapter is Asus AMD Radeon R7 240 attached to PCIe x16. Is there any option to add second video adapter to PCIe x1 and make dual display to work on AOS 4.1?

Thank you

@hlt

The firmware of the X5000 ignores a second gfx-card, so that is a no-go at the moment.

What Workbench screenmode are you using ?

It's a pity. I'm using 1920x1080. I tried 4K resolution, but it affected whole AOS 4.1 GUI speed, it was to slow to use it.

There is new Picasso96 (Picasso96 Nova? ) on the way, in Enhancer 2.0. Probably with better dual monitor support. Ask AEon how long it will take to release it or at least to release some more info about it

My Workbench does not slow down - in 4K - on my A1's, but I have the RadeonHD 7750.

Do you have RadeonHD drivers from the Amistore installed ? They have 2D-acceleration.

You might get away with putting a Voodoo3 into an PCI slot

That is known to work with MorphOS in selected PowerMacs (on a Pegasos you'd need a AGP Voodoo and PCI Radeon but lets not get to far OT).

This works as the Voodoo driver in CGX predates "NG" and initializes the card without any prior BIOS/OF/?? needed.

No idea wether thats also true for the OS4 Voodoo-driver (it should/could still contain the needed code from 68k drivers vor Prometheus/Mediator boards) or if the X5000 firmware somehow breaks it.

As for using 2 monitors on 1 card, sofar Amithlon+Matrox Millennium are the only public options (dating 2002).

I'm not sure it'll have anything to do with dual monitor support because it's just a 2D drawing API - think of something like Cairo. And no, it's not going to be called Picasso96 Nova

Yes, I have RadeonHD driver with Enhancer Software Graphics Upgrade. RadeonHD.chip file version is 3.6.

4K works, but whole OS becomes a bit laggy, especially window moving.

Matrox TripleHead2Go digital

This one i have on my AmigaOne X1000 with a single Radeon HD 7750 and works just fine

There are other models Also tested by me but this one gives the best quality.

It requires to be configured on a pc before usage but after this it'll just work

OK, so which part of OS needs to be enhanced/rewritten to get better multi monitor support?

At least, something we know now

Probably just a firmware update for the X5000. Dual monitor setups work fine on the X1000, so it's not an OS issue.

Is it possible to move windows between monitors? E.g. Sketchblock tools on one monitor and edit area on another? WB stretched on both monitors? Thats what I mean

No it's treated like another discrete screen with it's own boundaries like any other screen opened in Amiga OS.

@Rob

It does with the solution i posted about.
These devices come around second hand for the price of a medium/cheap gfx card and the OS will act as a single screen twice/three times wider

Nice solution, a little expensive imho, I paid less for a 4K 28 inch monitor. But interesting solution :)

Is there any footage on Youtube of your Amga with the Matrox available ?

Yes, at the moment a dual head for 70e and a triple head for 200e (as much as my 4K 3840x2140 monitor) here in The Netherlands.

Maybe someone is puting some footage on Youtube to see how it works with the Amiga and if it is worthwhile.
