Yes, it's been almost a year, so it's time to take another snapshot of graphics card usage in AmigaOS land.

Click here to take part in the survey.

Hans

P.S. Please share this on other Amiga forums, and also share it with anyone else who you know is an AmigaOS 4.x user. The more people take part, the more accurate the results become.

How about any comments in relation to which card we use in which system and why or will that be on here.

@Hans

7750’s just like last year.
Maybe Polaris next year, if there are benchmarks with show real benefits.

Are there any discussions about dual monitor support or hardware video de coding ?

Tried a R7-250 on my sam460ex, but doesn't work (seems uboot issue) so (re)plugged my "old" RadeonHD6570.

One obvious benefit is that the Polaris driver supports power management. I used to use a low-end Radeon R5 230 for some time, because I was afraid that switching to a Polaris card would greatly increase fan noise as well as power consumption. None of it turned out to be true with this model. I don't look back.

Hey Hans,

Same as last year sadly.. Radeon HD 7700 in my X1000 and Radeon 7000 in my AmigaOne. Hoping to get a good reason to "force" me to upgrade (new game, killer app, etc..) Keep up your great work!!

(The above info was also submitted in the survey.)

@Hans

Thanks for all the work you have done to update graphics drivers.

I have a MicroA1-C with onboard ATI Radeon 7000 chip and 32MB video RAM.

Is this equivalent to the Radeon 7000 graphics cards used by some AmigaOne owners?

Thanks,
redfox

Yes it's essentially the same. I think the VRAM is integrated in the same package as the GPU rather than the separate chips on discrete video cards.

There have been multiple discussions about which card to use. I recommend Polaris/Southern-Islands cards for all modern machines with PCI Express.

Older machines typically work well with Radeon 9000 series cards. I have seen some have success putting a Southern Islands cards into a Sam440ep via a PCI-X to PCIe adaptor, but have no idea how well that works.

We talked about it at AmiWest. Users were generally more interested in hardware video decoding while developers are more interested in dual monitor support. No comments right now as to when either of them will become reality.

@all

Submissions have tapered off, and we're now sitting at about half the number of responses to last year.

If you haven't submitted your response yet, it would be great if you could do so. And, it really would be a help if people could spread the word on other AmigaOS forums & news portals

The survey is now just a few shy of 300.

Just a few more days left to submit, so if you haven't done so yet, then please do so now. I'm hoping that we'll still get more submissions than in 2017. ..

Sorry to hear that. I hope it's temporary, especially because you're a pretty effective beta tester.

@all

Last chance to participate. I'll be closing the survey in a little over a day (ending Monday night)...

So it should still be under warranty, shouldn't it?

@Trixie

That is what I thought.

"A-Eon/Amigakit" have had the returned board for 6 & 1/2 Months.

Early comment from Repair Dev :

"As it looks at the moment, the damage to motherboard is not a warranty issue."

Last comment from Repair Dev 2 plus months ago :

"I just noticed, your CPU heatsink looks like its been bleached of the red colour. Next step is to try and clean board off and take it from there. As Im guessing fluid like substance is causing shorts on the board."
