I am not familiar with Windows 10, I use Windows 8 a little bit. I am well aware that the market share for Windows is very big compared to anything else and most people actually care very little what operating system they use.

One example, my sister-in-law was getting a PC, she is a typical PC user. I asked about Linux, but that was not interesting at all, no one can understand that. Some time later at a hotel they had some courtesy browsing computers and she was sitting and using one. I looked at it and realized that it was not running Windows (it was in fact running Linux). So I asked her, does it work well to use that computer, any problems? No problems at all came the reply.

If you go back some decades Unix workstation was a niche market that eventually disappeared, killed by the PC. PC people I met at the time had no good feelings about workstations and rather hoped it would go away, porting software to something they did not use or understand was no fun for them.

The thing is that if you look around today, Unix like systems are really everywhere, so what I mean is that in some way Unix eventually won. Few really cares.

While I enjoy using Unix, I am well aware that it is hardly the best system ever, though its command line and the Unix philosofy makes is more than good enough IMO.

To be a little bit on topic. I do not have any questions for either of these two camps as they have made it very clear that they intend to hide the source code from people, thinking that a pay-ware Amiga OS is the way to go. I think they are living in the past, but that is my opinion and their choice.

Yes, Microsoft Windows has secured the second position in global operating system market share at 35.78%, with 3th position being at 13.8%

(Statistics from here)

Yes, I remember how many people used to (and some still) dream about "Linux overtaking Windows".

And now that it has happened without a question, people are all like

I now have loads of questions for both and I am waiting times from Hyperion and will contact MorphOS team over weekend.

If you are just waiting "times" from Hyperion then that tells me you had response/acceptance.

You told us Mike would speak for Cloanto.

How about telling us who will speak for Hyperion?

Good luck with MorphOS team btw.

Pretty cool seeing Amiga listed (not just in the Other camp) but how can we be at 0%, it should at least be 0.0001% of something should'nt it be!

@amigang

The glass is 0.0001% full.

Windows is still too high. A single company having more than 50-percent of the market is never good. The only way I see that changing is if Apple were to introduce a cheaper line of Macs, and I don't think that's very likely.

~

I am waiting for the interviews with great anticipation. The last one was really good, and I hope these will be as well.

I know you're up to your eyeballs in cases, but any idea when these interviews might be published?

@bison

Since the speeches on Sunday at Amiga 34 show a 20 minute time slot where Hyperion will answer questions, perhaps they will be presented there?

reference Sunday schedule

That would be a good start, although there are probably a lot more questions than what will fit in a 20 minute time slot.

I should be there standing on my soap box wearing a black T-shirt with "I :heart: Hyperion", and read out loud excerpts from the OS 3.1.4 software license... with a shivering voice, gritting teeth and a pointy finger held up at all those running around with Vampire V4 systems...

"This license allows you to install or operate the AmigaOS only on a computer system that had a version of AmigaOS installed on it at the time you acquired such computer system, which was especially prepared for running AmigaOS through the use of a dedicated (flash)rom or similar mechanism, or for which a legitimate version of AmigaOS was or is available. "

And since this is in Germany, I would make sure _everyone_ adhere to this requirement...

"You are required to select the appropriate "Locale" setting based on the location where you will be operating the AmigaOS."

@ferrels

There are so many factual errors in your posts that I have to fact-check a few. I don't disagree with your general opinion, just want to correct these. A few came from other posters so I'll just list them here too:

Commodore International (that includes U.S. and all the computer development) folded in 1994.

Commodore UK folded in 1995, roughly a year later. (This was dated by someone else incorrectly.)

Further note: Amiga 1200/4000T manufacturing finally ceased only around 1996 due to them being continued by ESCOM. A4000T may have continued a little longer too.

Flicker fixer was not needed for high-resolution flicker-free graphics on ECS/AGA Amigas. A good monitor and a productivity screenmode selection was.

Amiga 3000 that was mentioned together with the AGA Amigas was released in 1990, it was not a part of the 1200/4000 generation of 1992. Arguably in 1990 Amigas situation was still quite a bit different, especially in Europe. One can well argue its ECS chipset was not the step forward needed, a beginning of an end maybe, but it was not the end yet...

Since you obviously listened to Stephen's latest video, which I mentioned in the A34 thread:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAgsPJeYxno

You know that neither interview has taken place yet. It seems like he was looking at MorphOS team interview for around January 2020, and no estimate for the Hyperion interview.

Please correct me if you understood this differently.

I came to the same conclusion. I expect we're not going to get much in the way of straight answers from Hyperion anyway, and we now have up-to-date information from MorphOS, so it probably doesn't matter much.

Thank you. Can you also confirm from around 15:50?:

"I can't continue doing what I'm doing with the cases...."
and
"I can't carry on unless there is stability"

What is he doing with the cases (apart from sending them out to people who paid for them up front)?

@Trixie

This is a very long video, which towards the end even outlines a 3 point plan he suggests for the future.

I'd rather have him explain, but he's only talking about the future here, not present commitments, so I wouldn't be concerned.

Also 42:10 -- "If it's not clear what's happening with the Amiga... I will ship this batch -- done."

I'd like to do a PC build in one of these cases, or a Tabor build, if it ever comes out, so I hope this isn't the outcome.

In my experience, which is 100% US based, the PC started to take hold in the late '80.

When I started University in Sept 1988 - the only computers in the lab were AT&T computers. I got my first full time job few months later in December 1988 and each area in the office had one PC. Maybe in total there were 7 or 8 PCs already.
Obvioulsy the Amiga was around but it was only a "home computer". For a period of about three years the Amiga 2000 was making some headlines in the video / TV productions, particularly with the toaster. The A500 was considered (by the general public) like a glorified game machine. Then the A3000 and A600 came out and were incompatible with the previous generation of Amigas and already technologically behind the PCs

In the middle of all that C= was still selling more C64 and C128 than Amigas.

I do not have any questions for Hyperion.

Well they introduced the Mac Mini as their low-end model, but that is still expensive compared to PC machines..

Who knows maybe when the Tabor is finally released will set the world on fire.
