@hatschi

That doesn't appear to be the same although very similar.

This one looks closer.

I've seen tests of fan vs passive cooling for the Pi.
That's when the cooling has been on the chips.
I'm interested to see fan vs an entire passive cooling case.

Cheers

@TiredofLife

The Pi3-version (that you linked to) might of course look different than the 4B-version (which is just being released). In the end and irrespective of the actual brand name, the cases are probably all produced by the same factory in China...

@hatschi

The 4B version looks pretty much the same, which is why I just used the 3B as I found that 1st.
There seems to be two variations, one with fans and one without.

As you say there are a few different brand names but they all look like they have come from the same source.

It's the performance of the one without the fans I'm most interested in.
Although a head to head of both versions would be good to see as well.

Cheers

@TiredofLife

I've ordered one of the 'armor' cases from ebay.

Just waiting from delivery (yes, from China), which should be in the next week.

@TiredofLife

After reading several articles and reviews, I am tending towards this passively cooled case instead:

@hatschi

Nice cooling performance.
No access to the camera slot though.
Also wi-fi performance drops on those enclosed aluminium cases.

Still if you don't need the camera and have wired internet, looks a very good option.

Cheers

For the record I have been playing some with a PI4 and find that even when I mounted heat sinks on it the unit gets REALLY hot. Hot enough that pretty much anything I throw at it for any amount of time at all causes it to throttle.

I have a POE hat that connects to the GPIO and has it's own fan that is temp controlled and it does a great job of ensuring nice cool temps (Around 48c if I remember correctly)

Only issue I have is that standard PI cases will no longer work with the POE hat installed but I will take that tradeoff for non-throttled use and receiving power thru the NIC cable.. One less cable on the PI to deal with.

I joined the Kickstarter for the original Argon One case for the Raspberry Pi 3B+ which I love and works well with that model. I've pre-ordered the Raspberry Pi 4 version which should arrive in a week or two:

https://www.argon40.com/argon1/argon-one-pi4.html

I'll run some temp-measures to see how it performs and post results here.

All the ports at the back and a power button, some very nice features.

Cheers

@bison

Thanks for the welcome, although I've been a member since 2005 :)

Had some account troubles which appears to have reset my number-of-posts to zero.

Love my current Argon One, am hoping the aluminium case and built-in fan can keep it cool enough to prevent throttle-down. At the moment the bare-board heats up like it's tap-dancing on the sun!

If it does then that will become the basis of my new daily-use Amiga whilst I'm saving up to repair my old A1200 / Blizzard IV 1230 with SCSI adaptor and x8 CD-ROM setup.

14 year before first post does seem like a long time!

@TiredofLife

Ignore the terrible engrish of the translated text and check the second image "List of Goods", there are no fans shown for the cheaper model.
