@TRIPOS

Have you read an NDA made by Hyperion?

@amigadave

Is not that normal if you work on a code base that is owned by someone else? You do not keep ownership of what you do. You are compensated (hired) and your work becomes owned by the employer. You are also not allowed to speak about or do things in competition to your employer.

@hth313

Yes an NDA is a normal part of protecting IP. What is outlined in an NDA can vary. As amigadave mentioned the Hyperion NDAs do not appear to be normal.Some believe they are contracts presented as NDA but in fact are some other contract designed to transfer ownership of developer property to Hyperion.

https://twitter.com/amigadocuments/status/1071237797825130496

The rabbit hole of amigadocuments is deep but if you dive in many of your questions may be answered without beating them to death in an off-topic discussion.

@AmeegaGuy

Yes, the normal thing is to use a contract when hiring developers to work on the code, that is not an NDA. The usual thing is that the ownership of the work goes to the employer. I find it strange to think that you can work on a code base you do not own and expect that you keep ownership of your work. That is not how things work and the contract will control that.

An NDA is for other parties to control what they can do with IP you share with them.

If Hyperion call their contracts "NDA", then they are doing something very strange. On the other hand, if you work on code you do not own, do not expect that you own your work. People should read what they sign, it cannot be that hard to spot this in advance?

Everything that AmeegaGuy said, plus the developers are not employed, hired and not compensated. That is obvious if you look at their fiscal reports (and listen to developer testimonies). You are talking about "normal situation", but "normal" does not apply when it comes to Hyperion. Why do you think OS4 development stalled?The developers definitely own most of the work. Hyperion is merely a publisher that doesn't own much themselves. They use sneaky and outright fraudulent business practices, they have no ethics whatsoever. They appear to have bought (as in actually paid for) Reaction. On the other hand they missed out on ExecSG. And lots of other things.

I see the standard of discussion here hasn't improved. Anyway it is time to put this silly conspiracy theory and uninformed rumours spread by lamers to rest.

I have read and signed the NDA in question, and others in the past. It is pretty standard stuff, not significantly different from other NDAs. There have not been any complaints from my fellow co-developers (or anyone else AFAICT) that Hyperion has stolen their work or anything like that. So this conspiracy theory is entirely baseless.

So for the record (since your claim here goes totally against some other testimonies), you claim to have personal insight in the situation of all the developers that have had a relation to Hyperion (and enough detailed knowledge of all their respective contracts and agreements), and you have been granted by them the role to speak up on behalf of them all collectively to say what you just did, to debunk this as a "conspiracy theory" that is "entirely baseless"? Or did you extrapolate your own (positive, it seems) experience of Hyperion and the NDA that YOU read and signed, and now project that upon everyone else (unasked) without really knowing the situation of all individuals that might have had a different experience than you?

I haven't seen the testimonies you say contradict what Minuous posted but in your previous post you acknowledge that contributors to OS4 have retained ownership of their own code.

Unless something has changed this isn't right. Exec SG only holds a static 68K emulator as standard. Petunia is a seperate Kickstart module.

We've had a good response to our DevCon signup. DevCon leader Steven Solie is preparing for the event and several of our active developers have signed up.

Be sure to check out the DevCon wiki for more information as it's posted. Go here to monitor the progress and see what the preparation details for all participants are.

We still have seats available to reserve. Even though the event is free because of our sponsor this year (see this blog, post # 3), a reservation is still needed. We need to prepare individual stations so that you can participate fully in the event. It's hands-on, so every partcicpant will have a place to bring their computer and set up.

See the reservations page under the check mark for the registration procedure. We hope to see you there!

So remember: AmiWest 2019 and associated events will be October 23-27, 2019 at the Holiday Inn Express, 2224 Auburn Blvd., Sacramento, CA. Make your plans to attend now. If you've attended before, bring one other person who is new to the show. If this will be your first time, welcome to the show! See our website at amiwest.net for the latest information and watch this blog for breaking news about the show. See you in October!

@SACC-dude

It is too bad that some Amiwest contents have zero entry materials in wiki.amigaos.net (videos)
Many can’t afford to be there IRL.

AmiWest and the excuses not to come: I get them every year, I understand..
Too expensive.. Too far, also see too expensive..
So many ways to respond. but in the end if you really wanted to come to AmiWest..

and...
You do understand that, we want people to come to the show in person?

Our streaming and videos are a plus. Right?

Our small group AmiWest committee and S.A.C.C. can only do so much.

Maybe, One good way to enjoy any event, is to plan. Like any good vacation. (grin)

Visit AmiWest while on vacation, see the sights on the west coast (or more)

AmiWest 2019, the Amiga show on the U.S. West Coast, starts next month! Preparations continue to be made and details hammered out as the date draws closer.

You want to be here to interact with those who participate! We've been told in past years that it is the highlight of the yearly calendar for more than one participant. Be sure to have a look again at all the details here.

AmiWest is the people! What we do is provide a meeting place for the very creative community that is Amiga! Come be a part and experience the atmosphere for yourself.

@SACC-dude

If Amiwest was promoted with an exclusive paid live HD feed it would make more income for the show.

Back in the day, computer clubs made their own shareware CDs.

Today computer clubs could provide paid access to :

Programming tech talk
source code CDs /demos
Live daily broadcasts.

Its a shame Amiga clubs don't use Patreon to fund a daily developer broadcast like :
Microsoft Developer channel on Youtube
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsMica-v34Irf9KVTh6xx-g/videos

MR Solie would be ideal, but you need a small team of locals who can dedicate an hour a day get Patreon paid to talk and teach what they love - Amiga.

Anyone have a home studio ?

Its a potential income generator.

10 subscribers @ $10 per month make $100 per month
100 makes $1000 a month.
