@Trixie

hmmm... I already have 4.11 installed. Looks like from the comments posted on os4depot for adripper, I'll need to upgrade to 4.22?

I need to come back to this when I have a bit more time tonight.

Thanks again.

AISS 4.11 is almost nine years old, so chances are ADRipper uses a newer image that is not contained in this version.

@ktadd and @all

Thanks for the advice on HP_Photosmart and netprinter.device

I now have printing working from my MicroA1 to our HP OfficeJet 4650 printer.

The printer is connected via WiFi to our router.
PC's and MicroA1 connected via ethernet cables to the router.

I can print fine from FinalWriter97 and NotePad. Get errors when I try to print from AmiPDF.

@Trekiej

I like to try out a variety of web browsers, currently have 6 installed.

I also like to experiment with ARexx. At first I was using simple console windows
to interact between myself (the user) and my programs. Since then I have used
KingCON, MicroRexx, AWNPipe, RexxReqTools, RexxBGUI, and RxMUI.

I use the following software on a regular basis:
NotePad
FinalWriter 97
Personal Paint (PPaint) 7.1
TVPaint
AmigaAMP3
Aweb APL Lite 3.5.12
IBrowse 2.4
NetSurf 3.9
Origyn Web Browser 3.31 (Pukapuka)
Odyssey Web Browser 1.23
Timberwolf 4.0.1 (RC3)
MicroRexx and RxMUI
Some very old favourites which run best under E-UAE on OS4.

I have also installed Vim (an editor), but not using it much yet.

Installed, but not working (worked under some earlier versions of OS4):
Imagine
Real3D

@Trekiej

I use my X1000 everyday, it is my main machine. I also have another X1000 and a 1260MHz A1-XE. They are just for emergencies and not used on a daily basis. Maybe I should sell them !

I do just about everything on my X1000, browsing with Odyssey, email with YAM, ftp using PFTP. I have IB and Netsurf but tend to syick to Odyssey these days as it seems the only browser that works on most sites.

I also use some none hardware hitting classic software daily too as if it was native software via Petunia JIT, Organiser, Money Matters, Wordworth, TurboCalc, ImageFX, Golded (or Cubic as its called these days).

BTW since getting a bigger and better monitor Golded seems to throw out GRs at the native screenmode of 2560x1440, it works fine if I 'downgrade' workbench to 1920x1440. I'll start another thread on that one ! Most of the time it clicks through with Assertion Fail messages before running the editor but sometimes the GR hangs the system

I use a few of the OS4 native players for videos, images music etc. ADRipper works fine for copying CDs but has anyone noticed it is often too quiet and misses the fist notes of some tracks ?

I use my own software, Digital Universe and 3D stars for astronomy. In fact I took my X1000 in to the local library the other day and used DigU and 3DS along with Hollywood to do an astronomy presentation for the kids summer reading project which is this year about Space - which in the words of Douglas Adams is BIG.

The only thing poor about OS4 I find is the printing. My HP Photosmart 6510 will not work even with the HPPhotosmart driver. It will print plain text but anything that is an image dump (most software) it hangs and I have to reboot. For some reason even with just text the latest driver prints "@PCL3" on a seperate sheet before doing anything else Whether I use lpr.device, netprinter.device ot the usb printer.device seems to make no difference. If any of those that have got any HP Photosmart to work would PM me with settings I would be very grateful. I now tend to convert files to PDF and then email them to my printer, not ideal and you get no control over the printing - but it does as least print the files that way.

I downloaded Proaction about two months ago. I hope to use it for my next project.

Meanwhile, baby steps. Doing some reading. Good documents BTW.

Thanks,

No not daily, my amiga use had gone fully hooby and fun mode really, with a real modern browser i could see myself using the x1000 a lot more but as it is, its turned into more my hobby computer when i want time away from my PC.

I use it about once a week, sometime more & sometime less, life and other things get in the way.

Most of time im booting it up to try out new stuff i learned about or just released (like the recent opengl games) or i learning or messing with hollywood.

@broadblues

Today, I tried all the ProAction examples in the package from OS4depot.

Also learning by experimenting, using the examples as templates.

I've opened my own window. No fancy stuff yet.

Is there an example showing how to add a menu?

I am if I can. I still consider my X1000 to be my main machine. Even though a laptop sits in my bedroom for casual browsing use and other things. The only reason I wouldn't use OS4 everyday is if I'm away or I get home too late after going out.

Cool. Please ask (maybe in seperate thread) if you have any questions.

Not added support for menus as yes, but now that they are BOOPSI based I could add that feature relatively easily. (Subject to time ...)

@Trekiej

I use my X1000 everyday. It's my primary machine.

I used to do mainly coding, but I don't have time for that now so now it's mostly email, photo management and editing. Occasional video editing. And of course all surfing that Odyssey allows.

Otherwise I RDP to my win10 box for too modern/demanding webpages/surfing.

Why? What is problem? I have also a HP's all-in-one device and printing works just fine. All HP's lasers works with Laserjet 4 driver.

My HP is wifi and not connected via USB.

I wish I could.

What's actually stopping you? I use my ppc systems daily and for most stuff. Web, programming, multimedia, turbocalc. I even take my Morphbook to vacations to get my Amiga fix abroad.
For wordprocessing though I mainly use a Windows (directly or via RDesktop) or OS X computer with the usual word processors (powerful and easy to share documents). The android handheld (I don't use it as _phone_, calls get done with old Nokia kit..) is a very handy addition, too.

And just for the record, I use MorphOS, not OS4. But this is not meant as a ccontribution of MorphOS vs. OS4. The overall usability situation is probably pretty similar...
