As far as I know at least one betatester had P5040 based board.

Have you seen it in action yourself? Since its main selling point are the extra cores, until SMT is available I guess it just speeds up Linux use?

@BigD

I think the clock is slightly faster: 2.2 GHz vs. 2.0.

@bison

Wow

That's valuable Blender rendering time! So does that mean it can play 1080p video without stuttering?

@BigD

No. P5020 can barely cope with 720p (X1000 does even better thanks to AltiVec) so don't hold your breath.

Sad but no surprise

Tabor is a step back again with FPU retrograded like the Altivec functions were with the move from X1000 to X5000

... however with the Tabor "it's not (Ed: all) about the money, money" to seriously misquote Jessie J!

... music does make it all better though. If the Tabor inspires just one more Calvin Harris or White Town (ok that's a ST reference but hey) then it'll be worth the wait. Talking about genius songs...

... how did I miss this?

@DFergFLA

If $ and desktop space is of no issue, get the X5K.

The X5K is more powerful, more expandable with all the PCI slots, been around and out for a number of years so has some track record on what it can and can't do, and is available today and in December.

Tabor will be a nice computer when it does finally sell but unknown when that will be, what the price will be, and being a new system, you will deal with more issues. X5K has had more time to get bug fixes and such.

I have owned the X1K, sold it, then decided to get an X5K, and been using one ever since. Was one of the early buyers from Amiga on the Lake too. They are good people.

Best of luck with whatever you end up buying.

I wouldn't count on Tabor becoming available in 2019, so the decision might be made for you already.

No no, feel free to hold your breath - just wait for what A-EON has in store as regards video playback support

Also, where to buy?

AmigaKit has the Cyrus Plus motherboard listed for sale. AmigaOne systems may not be generally available until the lawsuit is over, and who knows what will happen then?

I had assumed that Tabor has been delayed because the audio and network drivers are not finished, but perhaps these are done and there's no legal way to sell the systems. Anyone who knows probably can't talk about it. Everything is in limbo. If you can actually get a system from the retailer you mentioned, that may be your only option at this time.

@bison

Although an older interview now, it does mention both Sata and the trampoline code, in addition to what you mentioned.

April

Expecting an update of some sort in AF.

So what did the holy codex of the Total Amiga magazine September edition generally say about the Tabor release? Was it when the drivers are done? Or is it now all about the court case and the branding?

I think it is fair to give us the general summary of what is going on.

Yeah, I got the magazine's name wrong because rightly or wrongly I have no intention of buying it. It's ridiculous that there has been a news blackout on the issue of the Tabor's launch and that Trevor seems to be offering Tabor news exclusives on a pay wall only basis! If there was proper NEWS in that article then we would be talking about it here on AmigaWorld. I can only assume that the 'news' is there's more delays and boils down to "When the court case is done!" If I'm wrong then please correct me.

@BigD

If it's possible to save for a X5000 given your personal circumstances, I would highly recommend purchasing one while they exist regardless. My X5K is a terrific system, and the most performant of any AOS4-capable machine at the moment. I know it's a tad expensive, but then again, we don't know what at price they will sell the A1222. Everyone assumes it will be around or under EUR500. I certainly hope it is, but who knows?

"Strike while the iron is hot" and go for a X5K. If you're a NG Amigan, you'll love it. I know I do. And you won't have to wait for Godot, I mean, Tabor, any more.
