@fishy_fis

That's very unfair! The X1000 was a technologically successful (though financially questionable) 'proof of concept' but we are moving in ever decreasing circles from there. No SMT in the OS means no point upgrading from an X1000. The Tabor was a cheap-er machine for Sam users that wanted to upgrade / Classic users wanting to get on the OS4.x bandwagon. It is getting clearer by the day however that the wheels are coming off the bandwagon and unless A-EON buy out Hyperion and force a peace with Cloanto the whole AmigaOne 'experiment' is dead IMHO!

Rest in peace AmigaOne but long live the Vampire!

If A-EON buys Hyperion, they gain the legal right under contracts Hyperion has, which is conflict with Cloantos rights that clams to have. The legality of right to use, sell, and develop AmigaOS3.x is not solved, and the legal obligations Amiga Inc had to contracts Hyperion has. Has to be transferred to Cloanto, and this again opens the door for A-EON If they own the rights develop the source code under Hyperion's settlement agreement, this again will be conflict with Cloantos interest who like to control the name the brand and the source code. Expect they are not going to do anything with except apply the Amiga Tax on the brand names and Amiga logos. So again, Amiga Tax goes greedy Cloanto who will not fund or help improve problem of lack of funding for OS and driver development.

The only good solution here is if Hyperion buys out Cloanto assets, expect that but the company into bigger finical problems. Don't think Cloanto is going the assets at bargain price.

@NutsAboutAmiga

I really do not understand why it would be only good solution if Hyperion would buy out Cloanto

At least for amiga "classic" platform it would be worst solution

A mother company controlling amigaos with no interest in 68k and no money for development

@OlafS25

Well AmigaOS3.1.4 is developed by Hyperion and they made the AmigaOS3.1.4.1 update, you can't say they are not doing anything with the rights they think they have.

Also there was work on AmigaOS3.2 with updates to prefs programs and so on.

Fundamentally, AmigaOS3.x is part of emulation package that is integrated into AmigaOS4.1 RUNINUAE solution, and parts of the AmigaOS3.x code is also of use to AmigaOS4.x users like a updated diskdoctor and other essential that was not ported over to C/C++ (AmigaOS4.x).

To say that Hyperion is not interested in 680x0 is just false statement.

I believe Hyperion have also release bug fixes for some of their games for AmigaOS3.x as well AmigaOS4.x not too long ago.

@BigD

No, it's really not unfair.
X1000,.. terrible design. Overpriced, underpowered, scarce CPU's. Xorro is a stupid, pointless add-on.
X5000,.... possibly worse. Even more expensive, poor design, poor cpu choice, uder performing,with again, stupid pointless additions.
Tabor,.... possibly the worst of the lot. Weaker than 25 year or machines and completely outdone by a plethora of $20 machines. Ridiculous choice cpu.

They all have archaic i/o, memory speed, memory busses, and not one can come close to driving the supported video hardware.... not close to a tiny fraction.

There's not one decision made that isnt impressively stupid and it happens time and time again.
He's clearly a bit clueless and is being guided by idiots.

Yes, this probably sounds a bit overtly negative to some, but the reality is it's all true.

its not. i have read statements by their leading representatives on os4 "official" german forum, where they clearly said that this is not what they support and altogether an unfortunate choice. looks like it is an initiative of thor that has been accepted an income opportunity. at the same time any improvements of 68k code base has been prevented for decades, obviously in order to get the audience to invest in os4 and dedicated hardware.

@fishy_fis

I would not say it that harsh

Trevor is a amiga fan with money who relied (regarding hardware) on advices of others who obviously wanted to make money and gave bad advices (Varisys)

And another problem is the missing communication between hardware developer and OS developer. There are both sides to blame

From what I read regarding Tabor it seems there happened almost no communication between Aeon, Varisys and Hyperion

Really weird

@NutsAboutAmiga

all what they did for 68k was because they got it for free on a silver blade

For Hyperion the 68k market is just a resource of potential 4.X buyers, not a real market in itself

they have no money anyway, the only entity with money is Trevor D. but I doubt that he wants to put much more money in fire, he would need to buy the rights from both Hyperion and Cloanto

With the development of Tabor lots of money is already spend…

@spudmiga

I imagine Trevor has signed up for a low-level programming course himself to get the sound driver finished!

This doesn't seem to be a funding issue but a ongoing problem of underestimating how long it takes to support new SoC features rather than supporting a specific sound/network card and providing extra expansion slots to use them!

Surely the development delay has cancelled out any possible cost saving of reducing slots and the expansion cards provided on the Tabor?

Maybe just cost reduce the X5000? Enough time has passed.

Considering that an upcoming 68060 accelerator has an ARM onboard to accelerate video and audio playback, why couldn't the Tabor have been respun with an ARM as a coprocessor as well? Forget the SPE code. Just farm the heavy tasks to the ARM... i know... drivers.

Yeah come on Trevor; the challenge has been set! If you can set up a Exploration Geology office with Amigas then you can learn 'Developing with embedded Linux' / 'Writing Linux Device Drivers'!

"It's not all about the money, money, money!"

Get stuck in on the coal face or ask some of your Investment Angels to enrol Even better why not have Trevor, Matthew, Steven Solie and Mike Battilana all enrol? The Amiga software dream team!!! Let's get a bounty going for these guys. The slowest learner buys the beers!

Thomas Richter watch out; the New Amiga Developer Advanced (NADA) team is coming for your crown!!!!

WE'VE GOT NADA!!!

Well AmigaOS3.1.4 is developed by Hyperion(...).

We all know who actually _developed_ 3.1.4. It was not Hyperion. It was already done work which was given to Hyperion for doing the release and marketing.

The sooner Hyperion vanishes, the better.

Marketing in real world: "Now let me tell you about our new product".
Marketing in wonderful world of Amiga: "Pay to my friend to hear about our new product"

And people are still wondering why size of userbase is what it is.

... and yet when the X1000 was launched A-EON teased a cryptic riddle to drum up interest! Now that they have a relatively mass market product they retreat from any marketing except for an exclusive interview that no one is talking about!

Insane!

It's been a month since distribution.

Have you considered the possibility that the "expected" content was missing?
