@A1200

Not very clever, sir.

RANT ON

Everyone, it's "Qur'an", but apparently people treated school textbooks with the same respect they show the "sacred texts." Really, I don't know where to begin to penetrate such ignorance, and then some presume to lecture through ridicule.

RANT OFF

Now, if the shoe fits, then let's be honest about it - and there's little honesty in western commentary on the Qur'an. The Hadith reads,

"None of you [truly] believes until he loves (desires) for his brother what he loves for himself",

but time and again it's been rendered as,

"None of you [truly] believes until he wants for others what he wants for himself."

Tell me you can see the difference! If you're not one of the brethren, well, all bets are off. If you're banking on the Qur'an teaching tolerance, you've been misled.

I prefer Luke 10:35-7 - in principle, you extend goodness to all, not just those who look and act like you.

Let it not be said I have no sense of humour, still an appeal to fiction is not very satisfying.

No it's not. In the English Bible it indeed is Luke, not Lucas.

Although being brought up in the Roman-Catholic tradition, I don't have much love for this type of literature. Anyway,
I prefer this one and I'm aware that it is probably fully out of context:
Is 28.16: " He that believeth shall not make haste"

OldFart

Wait, wait, wait. That's going to be my sig here, come to think of it. Yeah!

@Samurai_Crow
which version of bible you will use?
The catholic, orthodox, evangelical, protestant, baptist, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormon and their book, etc. In latin, greek, etc. Because not everyone will be happy with the one you choose.

@Templario

I'm going to make it use any translation that is available for download on the websites in my second link. I've seen that there are both Protestant and Roman Catholic editions on those websites. It follows an XML format that's standardized by them. Literally dozens of Bible translations and some commentaries as well. It's basically going to be an eBook reader with study features added later.

Yes, I think that better option is make a PDF reader with bookmarks, now the people like the program and you don't forget ask donations for your work and time.

@Samurai_Crow

What was freely available back when I was doing this: ASV, Darby, KJV (outside the UK), Webster, and YLT. As far as I know Lexham English Bible is the only modern translation that is freely available, but perhaps things are different now. Sometimes you can get permission for some others for use on a website, but when you're actually redistributing the text, it gets tricky.

@Samurai_Crow

That's great! I am interested as well. It would be great if you were able to add paid content as well. So we can grow the library over time purchasing more translations, commentaries, books etc.

@Trixie

Looks like my point flew over your head.
In English it is also the Quran or the Koran, not just the Qur’an...

@kolla

Of course, but which is more insensitive, pointing out spelling mistakes to underscore a point, or spewing that contempt about wiping your posterior with pages from the bible?

It's not as though it's unexpected, but failing to call someone out is ambivalence - or cowardice. Whichever the case may be there's surely a better alternative.

I'm just sick and tired of stupidity having the last word because, at the end of the day, ignorance is not bliss - not even close.

Anyway, I'll try to be more sensitive - I hope others will, too.

@Topic

I have had an idea for an educational game which could require getting Bible inside the program in verse format, so if I ever get to doing it, this could be very helpful.

I also use e-sword, so if I ever get my Amiga usage back to more daily basis, possibility to use e-sword one way or other would be nice.

@thread

Update:
Hollywood 7.1 is not up to this task but future versions will likely be. Hollywood 8.0 adds features needed for handheld devices but we still don't have inline text links. RapaGUI 2.x will likely have this feature.

Another limitation is that the Zip plug-in lacks support for XZ and BZip compression which the XML files can come compressed with. This is also expected in a future version.

I'm sorry for not keeping you updated.
