| I just wanted to mention that my X5000 saved the day! I'm in the process of recovering Effects source code for the unreleased SciFiFX product and my iMac 27 was unable to read an old CD-R with source files. I figured what the hell lets try it in the X5000. The AmigaOS 4.1 took a while to read the CD but then success. I was able to copy off the source files to the network so the TriCaster can see them. I checked the files and they are not corrupt.
Thanks A-Eon & Amiga X5000! _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer. |

I would say your DVD reader included with your X5000 saved you day. _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

I would hope that Apple installed a good DVD drive in the iMac 27 inch. That machine cost me $2000 when I bought it new and it reads other Discs fine. _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer. |

My iMac reads other Discs fine so I don't think I need to buy another drive for macOS. _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer. |

Heh, nice post. It's always nice for the Amiga to have "one up" on one of the "big" computer platforms.
Funnily enough, I too have an iMac 27" but mine stopped reading and writing disks altogether. It is a mid 2011 model. I also have an annoying intermittent problem with a noisy fan that seems to be well documented with these models...
I managed to source one of the external superdrives from eBay for a good price. I wish I could say my Amiga can read optical disks fine but I have never had any luck getting my SCSI CD drive to work with the Squirrel interface... my A1200 T from years back managed it fine alas with the IDE 4-way buffered interface.

Wow I consider myself lucky then that my iMac 27” from 2010 is still working fine. It can’t run the latest version of macOS but some people don’t even like that version of the OS anyway since it removes compatibility with 32 bit applications. The Apple included 1 TB Hard disk died a few years ago but I was okay with that since I like SSD drives better anyway. I thought it was funny when I wanted to do the 16 GB RAM upgrade and took it to an Apple store. The genius rep said they don’t know how to do that and recommended I buy a new iMac. LOL, I took it to Microcenter and they did the upgrade for me in less than an hour and provide free water and snacks. Have you tried running MacFanControl? | Yes, Apple built notoriously bad quality DVD-drives.
Good thing for you that A-Eon build such good quality DVD drives!

On a few occasions I've been able to read files using my flaky old A1XE and OS4.1 which neither Mac OSX nor Linux could read, so definitely a plus for the Amiga _________________ Fred Booth ======================================== A500, A600, A1200 c/w Mediator and 030 AmigaOne and OS4.1 Mac LCII, G4 Powermac running OSX + Amigakit and MorphOS 3.0 Dell Mini 10 Netbook running IcAros and AmigaForever+Amikit+AmigaSys 2006 Macb |

Mine won't run it either. The macOS seems to be going backwards in some ways though, though the dark mode is nice. I do not like the pop up phoney-windows with the icons. Just give me a normal proper window with navigation to the other directories and the ability to rename and manipulate the files. You know, like you have managed to do since 1984.

I seem to have got it to calm down quite a bit by isolating the Macs power from other devices. It still gives the annoying grinding now and again but I'll just live with it for now. I did do some research when the problem was worse, it was penny-pinching on Apples part, a simple change in the design would have stopped the problem. I saw some apps that claimed to sort the issue but some were deadlinked and others wanted money and I refuse to pay to put right Apples cost-cutting.

I'd still prefer an A3000+ with AGA chips and DSP to be honest. What do people use the extra power for? Blender? Watching 720p YouTube videos? I think a marketing campaign is needed for the AmigaOne machines before the Tabor launch. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." Me: - Internet browsing (there's a world of difference in using NetSurf on the Sam and on the X5000) - playing videos (even with lower video resolutions the extra power is a bonus, as the system is more responsive during playback) - encoding audio tracks (it takes much less time to get your CD grabbed & MP3-ed) - processing high-resolution photos - compiling programs in GCC (faster compilation saves a lot of development time)

Almost every application/ prg Benefits from that extra power. So I dont think I need to specify exakt one application.. Last edited by Plexus on 20-Oct-2019 at 11:58 PM.
