It seems Atari of 1983 had some knowledge of the Amiga and desired to clone.

Found in this article.

Notice at article bottom a link to this engineering log sheet plans for 1850XL.

@AmeegaGuy

You may want to read up a bit on the early Amiga history.

- Jay Miner (the mastermind behind the Amiga HW) was working for Atari before, no surprise the chips are so similar

- When Amiga had financial problems Atari gave them a loan

- Atari tried acquire Amiga with some shaddy methods

- At the last minute C= came in, bought Amiga and paid the Atari-loan

- Atari had some ex C= guys working on the ST

- Atari sued Amiga/C= over a contract Amiga had signed with to get that loan

- Verdict was that C= had to give Atari access to some chip design

- Those design where then used for the STe, the closest think you'll ever find to a Atari made Amiga clone
