Poll : What's stopping ACube from selling their Amiga computers?
They are probably out of components vital for manufacturing and busy sourcing replacements
They are likely planning for a brand new, yet un-announced system
Some other reason

@Petah
Perhaps expensive boards? And sometimes the boards have problems...

We have been waiting for OS4 to run on a board that has physically existed for at least three years. I wonder how long the wait might be to see OS4 on a laptop that has not even been prototyped?

@Trixie

Faster for sure and with audio drivers from the biginning of testing phase.
Known audio chip with good support is crucial for further OS4 development, like support from coders for Radeon graphic cards. ACube can bring with laptop that standard in audio part to Amiga NG.
Solie talk about Stering comitie...so include ACube and share some work and information with company whos certenly helped with their past hardware and sowtware development.

@Trixie

Never ?

The PowerPC notebook campaign started allready in 2014. There is no prototype, no Linux running, no early alpha OS4.1 etc. I like the project and the cpu they are using, but realisticly this will take at least till 2023.

Yawn! What will be the state of the court case in 2023?

If only these 5 years or more have been used to port OS4 to lest exotic hardware then we would have solved the issue of hardware availability for good.

Didn't you read? BeOS achieved that aim and now any machine with an AMD or Intel Inside sicker can use the world's best and most sort after OS!! And that's why we ALL now use BeOS!!

There is a schematic diagram now... Do, no prototype yet, but st least more that just a wishful idea, progress on design has been made.

Gosh . How often this old broken record? Do you buy your computers randomly and just recognize , oh look this beige box has a ppc inside, let's look what OS is available for it?

Most ppl buy hardware not by chance but with a use case in mind.

In all seriousness ask youself what would be better:

A computer/laptop for 500 EUR (or whatever currency) that runs an Amiga OS ridiculously fast. Or a comuter for 3000 EUR that does run the OS - well - good enough and no laptp at all...

I knew what I would chose and hence I applaude the MorphOS-Team again and again for finally making the ISA switch.

The idea is simple: Make the hurdle as low as possible while proiding the maximum of compability and amiga OS/UI-design philosophy!

Still dreaming of a ppc laptop? Well I use a ppc laptop with an Amiga compatible sytems for nearly a decade now. And tell wou waiters something: It's great. Sorry for you still waiting, but it's your choice.

And another thing: This ppc laptop is able to run an OS that is safer and friendlier than Windows and that offers loads of industry standard programs, it was even installed when I bought that machine. Am I using that OS? No, I don't. I formatted the hdd and installed MorphOS an that machine exclusively. Because I bought this computer not for this or that OS but for MorphOS I don't care what other OSes run there too.
It's exactly the same on x64. Actual use cases define the usage of the computer, not the theoretical possibilities.

But each to his/her own. Maybe OS 4.1 should get renamed to GodotOS. The waiting as end in itself. Or castle in the sky OS or donkey---carrot OS, or #?.

@Zylesea

Mac PPC hardware is hardy and well made but my Airport wifi card would need soldering, I'd need another new battery and power supply and then I risk not having the Scanner drivers I NEED if I readied my iBook G4 for daily MorphOS use! All for what? I'd rather have a new machine with warranty.

We wait with baited breath for a x64 MorphOS machine but the Tabor is months away and A.L.I.C.E. laptops are already available. Newsflash: they didn't set the world alight with every ex-Amigan clamouring to get one!

There is no single silver bullet but a Q2 2020 Tabor release and Enhancer, Tower57 and Libre Office / Final Writer bundle would certainly help IMHO.

A MorphOS x64 port will not stop AmigaNGs march to oblivion because MorphOS will now play second fiddle to AROS and if the court case drags the AmigaOne project under the bus MorphOS will be left like the Atari ST without the Amiga!

@BigD

It's not about you and your ibook (I think we all know by some aeons already that you won't touch your scanner station). It's general. But in fact your ibook makes a pretty good example. It is a dedicated machine for a certain task. Good. I have a similar approach myself.
But as an Amigan my list of certain tasks contains "providing the Amiga experience". And I have a few machines dedicated for that task. And hardwarewise I couldn't care less who made the machine or what cpu is inside as long as it does its job good and comes at a justifiable price/performance ratio.

So, if you want something for your Amiga experience, the options are all on the table. But debating, waiting and lamenting is probably easier than doing. And before you reply the usual stuff that Amibient is not your taste and you won't invest in used, old kit, we _already know_ that (chewed through again and again already). But this is not about your actual decision (which I respect and it's all fine), but you provide a good example of the strange reasoning in Amigaland - hence the reply.

@Zylesea

Fair points well made. I am entitled to believe that post court case and after the subsequent market contraction that is inevitable no amount of ISA swapping will bring disillusioned ex-Amigans back. x64 options will not necessarily retain compatibility with Classic software (still required) or get many more people to invest in AmigaNG than a Tabor price level PPC machine would. Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe the IP being sorted out will usher in a new era of co-operation and the work done on porting MorphOS and efforts on AROS will help A-EON port to x64 or ARM in the long term. Maybe they'll all merge? Maybe only AROS, emulation and Vampire will remain. In the meantime I have a workable OSX Tiger scanner solution, some working Classic machines and the option to buy the Tabor next year! Happy days!

ACube are helping to build a new PPC laptop which is probably to the detriment to their SAM range of machines being restocked. But with the Tabor stealing their price point why should they focus on them? Better to get payed as a consultant designer on a more exciting and possibly more lucrative PPC laptop project IMHO.

Sometimes I wonder for how long will the Amiga OS4 agony last....

1. Hyperion hang their boots
2. A-EON hang their boots
3. x64???

So if we all attended Amiwest we'd be filled with unrestrained optimism for the AmigaOne project?! The Tabor still isn't out until at least Q2 2020 (too late to fend off Vampire sales and too late for those on the fence about the Checkmate Plus case) whatever hype A-EON feeds you about teams kernels and future talk!
