Hi there,

I have available now my BackBit cartridge for Commodore 64 & 128. It's a multi-function cartridge that operates with a Micro-SD card.

For more details, check out http://backbit.io

Thanks!
Evie Salomon

Well, Ray Carlsen would repair your C128D, but you are in R.I., and he's in Washington State.

For the C64, C128 (in 40-column mode), and VIC-20, the BackBit cartridge is still for sale at

https://www.backbit.io/

See Evie's introduction to the BackBit at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLik3CBZlL5eW3O-LaLSmVX5k3eL0nKWet&v=G3t2_iloGVQ&feature=emb_logo

and how to use the BackBit at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YKruh_DiEY&list=PLik3CBZlL5eW3O-LaLSmVX5k3eL0nKWet&index=2

The big selling point of the cartridge is its compatibility with various disk, tape, and cartridge images, like D64, D81, CRT, PRG, P00, .20, .40, .60, .a0, and more. Just drop the image(s) onto a microSD card and pop the card into the BackBit. You see the file(s) on a menu, you select the one you want, and it loads and runs. No Commodore calisthenics to get the computer to recognize the image type.

As mentioned above, the BackBit cartridge works with the VIC-20 with a special adapter that fits the BackBit into the adapter. Evie has a video that explains it at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Une9mquKL0w&list=PLik3CBZlL5eW3O-LaLSmVX5k3eL0nKWet&index=7

The Infinity is more like a SD2IEC; the BackBit is more cartridge, because it goes into the expansion port.

@RobertB

still of course IMHO my Blue Princess Infinity cart looks much cooler & takes up less space behind my C64 as it sits vertical and tight against the back face

Honestly, can't see why people get so seemingly excited about this (or SD2IEC or similar), since there's been 1541 Ultimate for ages.

Sure, it IS more expensive than especially SD2IEC, but it just can do so much more. Like BackBit, it's "more cartridge-y", also doubling as Action Replay and EasyFlash, and going as far as emulating REU (also in capacities not available back in the day), emulate 0-2 SIDs, and while it does have high compatibility with floppy software, you can also load single binaries to memory really fast.

One valid usecase I can think of for SD2IEC is when you have cartridge port occupied by something else (Kerberos...) and don't need floppy drive compatibility, then you can use SD2IEC or 1541 Ultimate, but SD2IEC is probably "less cumbersome"

-EDIT-
Of course it doesn't really hurt to have choices around. 1541 Ultimate definitely wasn't the first "floppy replacement solution" around, but it was the first, that did it properly.
