Development of the Mega65, a clone of the Commodore 65, is progressing slowly but surely. Prototyping has gone on for a few years, prototype boards have been sent out to beta testers, and now a Kickstarter campaign has started to gather money to build the steel moulds (molds) for the injection-molded cases of the Mega65.

I have sent in my donation! For more information on the Mega65, go to

http://mega65.org/

or go to the page for Kickstarter donations at

http://mega65.org/moulds.html

@RobertB

I believe the title is a bit misleading (or is just a slight oversight), this is not a Kickstarter campaign.

Perhaps you meant crowdfunding?

Oh, when I saw the few prizes, I thought it was Kickstarter. My mistake...

Oh, the C65 one of Commodore coffin nails ...

Sorry, but rebuilding a computer that was never in a production ready state, seems to be a stupid idea.

Something like building a 'better Amiga' as Mister or VampireV4 seemed more usable to me and when you are supporting it because you like the computer case, there are some Amiga rebuild cases that could be used instead.

Friend Robert Bernardo,

are you implying that this Tayger individual might suffer from a grievous personality disorder, and this terrible affliction could have driven him to such an inconsiderate squandering of monies?

Oh Lord God Almighty if that is the case let's join together in prayer for this unfortunate soul 🙏 #PRAYFORTAYGER

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

If I had 40,000 Euro to blow like that, I'm sure I would find the remaining 5000 or so to at least completely fund the thing.

It's always strange with those fund-raising things.

If they miss the sum, they are restarted with a lower sum but here someone magically appeared and threw some money in the pot ... there is something strange going on.

Goal reached! Now at over 69,000 Euros of the 66,000 required.

Mega65 developer Paul Gardner-Stephen talks about the new, sudden influx of money (in an article printed just before the crowdfunding goal was reached) and the plans for making the moulds at

Amiga superfriends,

look at how a quiet work of love without bold claims can bring to life something from nothing to a full fpga implementation packed with features, great performance, complete with a finely manufactured custom case and keyboard, with very little funding, in about five years.

Compare with the continuous epic announcements of the Amiga vultures, taking decades to ultimately rehash old code, old hardware, only to churn out underperforming, barebone, monumentally underperforming crap (As someone recently pointed out, the mythical TABOR will essentially be on par with a 2010 Sam460! Oh joy!)

FOOD FOR THOUGHT MY AMIGA FRIENDS,
food for thought.

Much love,
MEGA "RJ" MICAL, Santa among the devil crowds

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

A1222 advantage over Sam460 is connectivity.
(and it is dual core CPU, but that all depends on the ExecSG team.)

Sam460:
Onboard SATA plugs can only be used, if the PCI slot is not used or something like that.
and the PCIe slot is only really a 4x slot.

Also “Cache coherency maintained by a hardware snoop mechanism on the Low Latency (LL) Processor Local Bus (PLB) or by software”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CoreConnect

As understand it the AMCC460 can have “Cache coherency” if it uses the PLB, they choice not on Sam460. (if what I read is true in the other thread)

A1222:
has SATA slots, sound card onboard etc, a lot is the same as the Sam460,
but one major difference is that PCIe slot is 16 x slot.

So even if its split it into 2x 8x slot with something like this, it the PCIe interface will be a lot faster.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

Funny, because yesterday when I posted about Mega65 and what another company was doing:
https://myretrocomputer.com/

It became obvious that those not competing for ownership of copyrights, trademarks, and the like were the ones actually creating products and more importantly...releasing products.

It's obvious to me that both of the companies I mentioned would have preferred to also have the right to use the "chicken lips" or another appropriate logo on their products, but they had enough sense to not wait -for- or deal -with- those claiming ownership of the marks.
