Vampire V4 Stand-alone is ready today to ship and in the red corner the A1222Plus is ready for Christmas 2021... possibly?!!

That's exactly why I'm owing one.

"When it's done" became the de facto PPC/OS4 products' tagline...

Sam460cr is to reappear shortly, too.

And X5000 is still available from AmigaKit. They even dropped the price to... zero!!

A1222 your to late to the party I am in the process of ordering Vampire SA. If there is to be a cheap os4 motherboard I will wait for something else lost interest in A1222 now has taken way to long.

@g01df1sh

I am on an EA list to be honest, but too, due to this delay with A1222 board, I will most likely end up with Sam460cr.

@Rob

If the killer app is marketed as just OS4.x then no I won’t be buying it. I see no value in a Xerox style GUI experiment with an Amiga theme in 2021. Amiga applications and games are what made the system great, enabled/inspired by the amazing hardware. The OS was nice but was ALWAYS an afterthought as far as Commodore was concerned. A-EON have dragged Hyperion’s half cooked OS into the 2020s with the Enhancer software but if the A1222Plus doesn’t kickstart further app creation like the AmiStore attempted to then why not just patch up our classics or buy a Vampire V4 AVAILABLE TODAY!!

At least MetroSiege will definitely run on a Vampire, UnAmiga and MiSTer. Wayfarer browser, Libre Office etc are no closer to AmigaOS with or without the A1222Plus. So yes the indefinite delay is ideal because the extra time is needed to ready for launch quite frankly! Before the mainstream batch the machine would need a decent software bundle and clear ongoing development of some key apps to entice me. It’s therefore absolutely ideal (only half joking ) that there is still months and months to go in order that AmigaKit/A-EON can plan and license some amazing hardware bundles, so that Trevor’s ExecSG can be fully updated for SMP and for the AmigaOS version of Wings, Wayfarer and an Office Suite to be completed. It’s the best for everyone concerned!

Even the Early Adopters can be happy that they have a nice glossy shoe box to dust daily while their kind donation to the cause made a year ago pays for all the ongoing hardware and software development needed to make the A1222Plus a success! Well observed my friend that my investment is dependent on such things

@amigang

We were all supposed to pay 10 Euros to join them live! If they don't want to release them free how about 2 Euros to watch the videos pay on demand? I'd really like to have seen the Lightwave tutorial but was playing football with the kids while it was on!

We are overdue an update on LibreOffice! Was it mentioned on the Amiga Ireland 2021 online event?

The last Trevor comment as far as I can see on Amiga.org was after AmiWest 2018:

Quote:
Re: LibreOffice for AmigaOS « Reply #17 from DavidF215 on: October 13, 2018, 07:50:39 PM »

I'm watching the live stream from AmiWest. Thanks to Trevor for answering the question.

In short: technical problems encountered in LibreOffice that have been overcome. Projected first part of next year.

So it was expected around the 1st half of 2019!!! Any update?

@DiskDoctor

Thanks for uploading. I found the beginning of the AmiBlitz tutorial very accessible. Good job guys!

It’s just a shame from the time of getting both the original paper manual and Ultimate Blitz 2 CD-Rom, it’s taken me around 22 years to get Zeb’s functional manual, 23 years to find a starting point tutorial that I like and probably another 23 years to write a useful program or game! I’m running out of years!

I wish A-EON had made some kind of agreement with Claus Desler instead and aimed their resources at Cinnamon Writer instead. The word processor is probably the part of Libre that people most want and at the time the first aborted port began early betas of CW showed that it had potential to fulfil that need. It would also have made more sense to invest time and money there since beta versions exist for OS4, MorphOS and AROS and should also build just as easily for OS3.

For a spreadsheet program there is Ignition which was open sourced by the original author over a decade ago with the first OS4 release being available since 2015 with the latest version 1.08 being released last summer.

If you want a relational database that runs on OS4 there is the multiplatform MUIBase which like Ignition is also open source.

I was just thinking about Cinnamon Writer the other day. Had the look of a really useful program.

Does anyone know if it's still being worked on?

I kinda of feel a modern Web Browser is where all the resource for software out side of the OS, should go. Native apps are nice but HTML5 apps are as good as native programs now, Google Docs, Sheets, etc they all did work on Timberwolf / Odyssey up to about 2 years ago, now there is just too many errors.

Plus its not just office apps a web browser can run now, Photoshop alternives, Video editors, even 3d engine are on it (with webgl), I do wish Timberwolf was worked on more, seem such a shame to spend all the time getting basically Firefox 4 running on AmigaOs and then never updating it.

@amigang

Any £80 smart phone can open Web Apps but a rock solid internet connection is not always available. Native apps are best, more snappy and Amiga-like. We are not just trying to reinvent PC tech but are attempting to keep the Amiga feel and anti-bloat ethos IMHO. Web browsers encourage bloat at every turn. It is almost a modern browser prerequisite to be a resource hog!

Looks like it's stuck in Beta with none of his expenses being covered!

Always nice to hear Trevor speak but what did we learn?

My synopsis:
AmigaKit are still waiting for prototype boards from ACube since the Chinese factories refused the work due to Covid-19 (and probably small production runs meaning not much in it for them IMHO). It would be good going to go from 6 prototypes to 100 Early Adopter machines delivered within 6 months in my opinion.

Reconfirmed Mainstream Batch Price: Approximately £500 for a standalone A1222Plus (OS, case, mouse and keyboard possibly included?!)

... and hopefully between £550 to £600 for a machine with software bundle I would hope but nothing said!

The rest was general stuff about OS updates, shoe boxes , land locked New Zealand, investment angel endeavours and a great story about an A3000T, Beth Richards and a male ego

One can't seriously expect that people will start donating when he hasn't presented a new public beta in almost five years.

Thanks - great interview - and not too many sound problems either .

One thing I noticed in particular, I think it was around 10:50 or so?

Trevor talked about the OS4.1 FE Update 2 and the expected Enhancer version 2, and that they wanted to wait until they see the Update 2 + hotfix running well,

Quote:
- and then we'll make sure the Enhancer Pack version 2 doesn't conflict with the updates that come out from Hyperion.

This is really nice to hear. I hope Trevor and Matthew are in agreement as to what exactly this means, though.

Best regards,

Niels

@BigD

Imho from 6 to 100 is a little wishfull thinking ;)

This announcement from the flyer is 13 months ago:
http://blog.a-eon.biz/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/A1222Plus.jpg

And we aren't even in the prototype stage :(((
After the prototype stage, there could be another 1 or 2 revisions, that is 13 or 26 months...
if a batchrun of 100 also takes 13 months....pff ;)

Strange that it takes this long! e.g. The ZZ9000 guy has a production run every 4.5 months.
