I don't know if you are using DHCP or not, it is some kind of standard and without further knowledge of your LAN it is the best way for an TCP/'IP connection.
If the connection works you will get an IP address for your Amiga, most TCP/IP stacks in the Amiga have tools like 'ifconfig' 'ping' or 'traceroute'
A tool like 'ifconfig' will give you informations about your TCP/IP connection. When it shows no addresses for your connection, gateway or DNS, you can't go any further. You must iron out this problems first.
ifconfig on my system will produce following output: Quote:
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet Hardware Adresse 04:d9:f5:cd:d3:c4 inet Adresse:192.168.178.33 Bcast:192.168.178.255 Maske:255.255.255.0
lo Link encap: Loopback Device inet Adresse:127.0.0.1 Maske:255.0.0.0
|
Connection: eth1 IP address: 192.168.178.33
Ping is used for testing of individual connections.
On a working TCP/IP stack it should give results with
ping 127.0.0.1 ping 192.168.178.33 (own address, ifconfig told it to me)

Try adding this to your DEVS:NetInterfaces PLIP file: debug=yes
See if you get any more info on the DHCP process when connecting.
BTW what model is the DLink?
And, on OSX, does the network configuration have any special particulars, like enterprise login? |

I think I did. Isn't that how I got the information I re-typed here a few days ago?

Where would I look

DAP-1650

I have ipv4, netmask, and router addresses. What else should I look for?

I don't know. You would see it inside the PLIP file. I don't see it exactly mentioned on last page. I see ShowNetInterface. But this is from AddNetInterface when it is trying to connect. Not sure, it may appear in output window, but running "AddNetInterface PLIP" in a shell will show debug info if enabled.

Either an output window on Workbench. Or directly from the shell.

Okay. Looks like a nice one.

Some type of passsword in WPA Enterprise settings. If it needs that. Does the wifi login info mention anything like that? It would be different to the usual SSID and password settings. |

I ran some of those debug tests a few weeks ago and took a picture of the screen with my iPhone but couldn't post them here, so I re-typed one.

I don't "log in" to the wi-fi network. My Macbook pro simply autoconnects when I open it (if I'm within the network's range) |

But your laptop most likely has credentials installed and logs on to the wifi automatically - this is very much the entire point with 802.1x, which you earlier said that you need to use. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

| Anyways - what we are trying to ask, is if you can connect your mac to the dlink using an ethernet cable, and wifi turned off, and go online via the dlink, the same way the amiga would. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

I think I tried connecting the Macbook Pro to the DLink via Ethernet cable and it didn't work. The local IT guy said it wouldn't, if I remember correctly.
If I turn off the wi-fi (the Mac's I presume) how would I connect to the Internet?
In any event I left the DLink at my friend's Sunday and won't be able to retrieve it until late next week in all likelihood

Yes, the log in would be handled by macOS, just like it would with any secure wifi network so you don't need to enter login credentials every time you connect. Just like dial up where it logs in but we didn't.
In your OSX network settings there should be a tab with a 802.1X label. Which will contain log in details. Pertaining to your network configuration.
When you get your DLink back and the IT guy comes over again, perhaps ask him to set the router up. Should be easy enough. It has EAP settings for WPA Enterprise in the manual I looked up. That should put the Mac and Amiga online through using the DLink as a wireless adapter. Last edited by Hypex on 04-Mar-2020 at 02:10 PM.

the 802.1x panel says "Authenticated through EAP-PEAP (MSCHAPv2)" and gives a connect time |

Exactly, you are logged on using “EAP-PEAP with MSCHAPv2” - also known as PEAPv0. MS as in MicroSoft, CHAP as in Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol - essentially loging on to the wifi using Windows credentials, username, password and optional domain.
Your DLink should be able to do the same, on behalf of the Amiga.
For what it is worth, I do the same, only with a raspberry pi instead of a dlink. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

So, your opinion is that I would have an Amiga connected to the Internet with the DLink connected to the laptop's Ethernet port via a network cable with Roadshow running? |

No, what I’d try is DLink connected to wifi, Amiga connected to DLink, the Mac not really involved.
Though you may want to use the mac to configure the DLink, before handing it over the Amiga... Last edited by kolla on 03-Mar-2020 at 10:33 PM.

What you have to do
The Amiga needs TCP/IP Stack with propper setting for a connection to the PLIP-Box
The PLIP-Box needs proper Settings for a connection to the D-Link
And the D-Link (depending if it is working as an WiFi access point or as a Router) may needs some settings too.

"D-Mac"?
Anyway, "proper settings" is the problem here. Roadshow starts up when I boot up but I can't do anything that requires connecting to the Internet.
If I lauch, say, AmiTCP it tells me a TCP stack is already running (!)
A GUI for Roadshow sounds nice (if it can get me further than I already am), but it would require Internet access to download.
I've downloaded it to this Macbook Pro, and the only way to get it to the Amiga is to burn it to a CD. |
