the vampire is a niche product for amiga fans and retro community, not for the mass market
You will never create interest between normal average users who are happy with their smartphones and tablets |

Yeah fine, but an old A500 user who takes the plunge because of nostalgia would rightly expect that the Vampire Standalone would come with a bootable licensed version of AmigaOS / Workbench IMHO. They would also expect to have a slightly easier time of things than an original A500 and a stack of floppies and would maybe equate the Vampire SA to the hard drive equipped A1200 with Workbench pre-installed that they never could afford back in the day!
Sadly, it sounds like a world of pain for a newbie ex-Amiga owner and that IS a problem. But hey if they want to just dribble out a handful of boards a month, expect their customers to already have an Amiga in order to set up the Vampire SA correctly and also artificially inflate prices due to forced rarity then good luck to them _________________ "Art challenges technology. for SA you do not need a real amiga
you just need a working environment in UAE |

And everyone is expected to have that?! Why? We live in a world of mini consoles that work out of the box! Yes, I guess the MiSTer FPGA needs Windoze too and the RPi Model 3s don't come preconfigured to work as emulated Amigas. Personally I was disappointed when my SCSI2SD board needing configuring on a PC rather natively on my Amiga, so why then should people be expected to prat around with UAE if they just want to relive their youth with a fun bit of 'Stand Alone' hardware!
That's the worst bit of all; it is marketed as 'Stand Alone' and yet it can't even boot Workbench or ANY software with out extra PC interference etc. Maybe if Cloanto / Hyperion weren't ripping shreds out of each other in the courts they could have got a sensible license deal and set these machines up to work out of the box able to run ADF files off USB pen drives from the get go? _________________ "Art challenges technology. BTW behind the scenes we are exactly working on that as a cooperation between OS developers (and distribution developers like me) and the hardware and driver developers
But it is of course WIP
You can of course buy Tabor or use MorphOS as alternative Last edited by OlafS25 on 13-Feb-2020 at 09:40 AM. Last edited by OlafS25 on 13-Feb-2020 at 09:38 AM.
