My Sam 460cr with the radeon 7700 with RunInUAE is much and much slower than my Pi 3b +.
Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
My setting is 640 * 512 in the screen. I can change something with this but for example Gloom in not usable, and the sound with simple non AGA games is often not good. I use WHDload.

@dirkzwager

Well, Pi 3B has faster CPU. There is JIT version of E-UAE OS4depot link (I thought it is already in the RunInUAE package?), be sure JIT is activated in the UAE configuration file.

@pavlor

Only beta versions of runinuae uses jit e-uae.
The one supplied with os4 does not.

@dirkzwager

I have not benchmarked it but it would not be a suprise for me if if the rpi3 is running uae better than any ng-amiga.

But as pavlor said, you should make sure you are using the latest runinnuae.
I'm running runinuae r8 beta (31.03.2018).
It's running nicely for me with the jit enabled, sometimes even better than the rpi3 as the jit there was too buggy for me the last time i used it (it was several years ago so hopefully it has been fixed).

I only got my sam460 for Christmas. so os4 is new to me. I have amiga os4.1 FE with update 1 and enhancer update from E-eon.
Is this enough and how can I update runinUAE?

Hi guys,

I use a SAM 460 and have experienced the same as dirkzwager.

Have the latest beta version of RunInUAE installed.

Even if I run games at 320x256, with frame-skip 2 and JIT, the sound is stuttering. Have tried running on separate screen and in window, but the same thing happens, unfortunately. There can also be stuttering in the game itself with choppy movement etc.

Have experimented with various settings, but strangely it seems that emulation on my SAM460 setup is slower than on the SAM Flex, even though that is probably impossible. I don't know.

Hope someone has some good advice for us, so that we too can enjoy smoother emulation of classic on NG. Seems like others have gotten it working better after what I've read in various forums.

FPSE, Playstation 1 emulator, is running great though. Would have thought emulating PS1 is more demanding than A500?

@OneTimer1

Dirkzwager is problably also interested in AmigaOS4 considering he has the Sam460 with RadeonHD.
Even if the Pi does PPC emulation it is slower then the Sam460. Not even talking about composition, Minigl etc.

@Dirkzwager

Do you have a PCI soundcard in the Sam460 ?

Yeah, this is a problem. There's no rational reason to get an Amiga NG if all you use it for is emulating classic Amigas. I go back and forth on getting a Tabor, but it's probably not going to emulate a classic Amiga as well as what I'm already using, and there's no NG software that I'm just dying to run.

@OneTimer1

I have the Pi3b + and I have the sam 460 and i have MorphOs on my powerbook.
For just some games, the Pi is fine. really fine.
But os4.1 FE is something completely different.
It is much more modern, faster and no emulation but native.
A much finer, smoother way of working. Certainly with the DVD, SSD, USB, HDMI, Sound Card, Graphic Card.
That is of course also for MorphOS.
There is GOOD os4 software and games. It may certainly be more, but it is there.
On the other hand, it is nice to be able to use classic software or play older games from time to time.
I personally find this an enormous added value. But the speed is slow on the moment. Maybe there is a solution, so the question.

@dirkzwager

I don't know if the internal soundchip or the PCI soundcard makes any difference, but the fact is that I had PCI soundcard in my Sam460. And with UAE jit I tried some game and those were fine. Jit made the difference, but even with Jit cpu usage was high all the time, without jit sound was stuttering like you wrote.
