Has anyone else seen that this Alien Breed 3D Remake is finished? Because it's based on GZDoom it's currently only for PC, Mac or Linux but it's such an amazing experience like the pixelating mask has been removed from our nostalgic memories! Plus you can look up and down.

https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=67666&p=1139864

... the download is at the bottom of the news article. Enjoy. I wish I could create something like this.

@BigD

So why is it in the Amiga Gaming zone?

@K-L

Because it is almost a perfect remake of an Amiga game! It's not the aurhor's fault that for whatever reason GZDoom has not been ported yet! I fail to see how this can be classed as PC game news

A large proportion of the Amiga community use emulation on machines that can run GZDoom and the X1000 and X5000 can run Linux so someone get it working on those distros. Simples.

Wow, this is awesome! I love AB3D and after couple of levels this feels like 1:1 with few improvements. Now someone port gzdoom :)

@BigD

I really loved all the Alien Breed games and it was the release of Alien Breed 3D that finally decided for me that I needed an accelerator card.

By the time Alien Breed 3D II TKG came out I already had a Blizzard 1230 IV with 8MB of RAM ready to go.

I've played a couple of levels of Project Osiris and so far it's a very faithful remake indeed, looking forward to playing it all the way through.

Thanks for letting us know about it.

I played through the first level and a little of the second one until I managed to kill myself with some explosive barrels. Looking pretty good so far.

Don't know what you mean as a 030 50Mhz plus 8 mb made the original game fly! Yeah the letterbox graphics was a limitation of the chunky copper clever coding used for AGA graphics but this remake makes it into the promised 1x1 version when Alien Breed 3D 2 was first anounced. Team17 later scrapped the inclusion of the first game's levels and proceeded to attempt to make something to max out 040/060 machines instead. In the process seem to have forgotten about collision detection, level design and the fact that robots don't bleed green goo!

The remake really is great and the underwater sections look fantastic. It shows that the original levels stand up and no need to bother with getting AB3D2 running fast enough now.

Well you know, hydraulic fluid might be green in the future, who knows :)

@Yssing

An electrical arching effect or explosion might have been better but the main problem is the speed and the level design but yeah point taken

Correction: Presumably to save memory they made everything bleed green!

From Lemon Amiga:

Quote:
ALL of them die in a splatter of green goo, even the classic red beasties directly lifted (untouched original assets) from Alien Breed 3D (and their carcasses still bleed red blood!).

Quite right! What I meant was It was only after buying AB3D that I knew I had to buy an accelerator; I couldn’t just carry on with the stock A1200 any more. So by the time AB3D Ii arrived I had a powerful enough machine to enjoy it, as well as Gloom, Fears and Breathless.

Project Osiris brings back all those great memories, with the added bonus of being a zero-lag smooth experience.

Excellent work!

Oh, my dearest friends,

finally an unofficial remake (not a port) of an amiga game, that runs on PC on an engine designed for a port of a PC game!

THINGS ARE REALLY PICKING UP FOR THE AMIGA.

With love,
MEGA_RJ_MICAL

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

Yeah well not every thread needs to be a discussion about the Amiga's future. Sometimes you need to kick back and play an Amiga computer game remake. Port GZDoom if your insulted that it doesn't exist on Amiga(One) machines.

@BigD

Friend BigD,

as I lie down in my sumptuous canopy bed under an antique silk duvet shivering from an unwelcome illness, perhaps the infamous coronavirus itself,

I briefly sit up to recall some treasured memories from the days of yore of my "lurking".

One of such memories is about you. You, my friend! You, repeatedly calling the same machine that now seems to bring you joy, a "Pee Cee". Over, and over, and over again.

You will henceforth certainly understand why I am now flabbergasted to see you in bed as well. In bed with the Pee Cee, flirting lasciviously with its muscular X86 central processing unit.

Hope this clears up my point view, which I admittedly expressed in my first post with rather excessive vehemence. My friend.

Sickly yours,
MEGA_RJ_MICAL.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

It is not a PC in the strict sense of the word but a Mac with a Boot Camp partition. It isn't the Windows 'experience' that brings me joy but the games that I can run on it. I consider Elite to be an Amiga game too but Elite Dangerous is not on the AmigaOne and is no longer even on the Mac because of shader issues and the mishandling of OpenGL support!

Summary; it's about the content and I won't stop playing Elite Dangerous and the best remake of Alien Breed 3D ever coded just because I have to boot into Boot Camp to play them. Sonic Mania isn't on the Amiga or the Mac so again excuse me for using Boot Camp. Do you expect me to just play Kid Chaos because it's the closest the Amiga came to Sonic?! Ditto with Aladdin and Cuphead. I didn't think it would be contentious to be honest as lots of people choose to use emulation so presumably have x86 machines to hand

In addition, to my knowledge the A1222 isn't sparking off newer versions of AMOS / Blitz Basic / Deluxe Paint / Lightwave for the platform so a purchase of a PS5 and a copy of Dreams to 'have a go' at game creation would probably be a wiser purchase for me than the Tabor. There I've said it because "IT'S ABOUT THE PROGRAMS" not the windowed GUI that you use to open them!

I don't like PeeCees and it's been such a faff getting my Dual Shock 3 pad working with it through a kludge called Scp Toolkit and a separate Bluetooth USB adapter even though there's Bluetooth built into the Mac! I hate they way Steam has to 'check' to see if my license checks out online before I can play DRM protected games! Elite Dangerous bloated by a few GBs when it forced an update on me over the weekend and I had to free up a lot of hard drive space to keep the Boot Camp partition viable! It's a pain and the consoles are going the same way but it's horses for courses to play / use the games / programs you want to.

@Violent Ken

... and in the case of Project Osiris it definitely IS worth possibly angering the 'Amiga gods' by playing it on a x86 equipped machine because it pays such homage to the original compared to Alien Breed 3D 2 which squandered it by focusing on creating a tech demo rather than a game!
