@OlafS25

Friend OlafS25,
let me understand this..

if I run a using WHDLoad through V4, it won't go through UAE emulation but rather hit the metal directly?

So we have an Amiga which stays true to its original 68K architecture while being 400% faster than the fastest 68060, with an OS that stays true to the look and feel of Workbench, and runs classic games nateively, but with a tcp stack, usb support, etc.?

Is this a wet dream and I'll wake up shivering and embittered in my sumptuous canopy bed, scrambling to grab the nearest bottle of Macallan Lalique 60 years old to regain my composure with a sip that's worth a month of BigD's salary?

MRJM

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

yes whdload uses the hardware directly and not needs emulator-layer like UAE

and yes it has 3.1 look and feel with full support of RTG, network and sd-cards and runs many classic programs without change

USB would be possible too but there are no free usb ports at the V4

@OlafS25

Any chance of getting some more modern looking icons on the desktop as well?

Sure, modern looking icons would look great! Possibly 3D, glossy, transparent, and with a drop shadow!

A perfect fit for the WB 3.1 look!

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=98062&page=7

Will this distribution ever be available for X86?

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

I do not understand what you mean

In this form no because you cannot mix 68k amiga software and aros on X86. On X86 you can only emulate 68k in UAE

I agree 100%! Only thing missing is a classic looking case, preferably A600-like. I suggested just that here: https://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=43682&forum=25

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

theoretical it is of course possible to make something for X86 looking like this

Magellan exists and it is no problem to change icon set

68k integration is something different. On Aros X86 you can only do that with UAE

Friend DiscreetFX,
abdominal muscle like you don't see often.

But why, I ask myself as complete yet another series of weighted crunches, would you even ask this question? Are you perhaps - shall we say - queer?

Nothing wrong with that, friend DiscreetFX, nothing wrong indeed!
But let's please go back to our favorite gender-neutral topic:

Yes I am well aware of that, my friend, but if transparent enough UAE would do.
Will 68K applications integrate seamlessly? Or inside a UAE window?
That makes all the difference.

And where oh where would I find those icons?
How to make use of Magellan?
That's where a Distribution would come to the rescue.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

not like it is done in AOS or MorphOS where you can easily install 68k applications. It is installed in a virtual UAE environment. It is called "RunInUAE" as far as I remember

I do not know much about it because I was never interested in it. I can PM you the link to the icons and magellan if you want

If you really want to learn everything from magellan you will need some time. Best you f.e. look in my distribution. And read the manual of magellan

And you should install and look at Icaros Desktop

Depending on what your trying to install, anything that needs puala/ciaa/ciab or the bitter has run from EUAE, everything else can be installed as it was a PowerPC program, AmigaOS4.1 translate 680x0 apps using Petunia, MorphOS does the same using something called Trance.

On AmigaOS4.1 libraries can have optional “JMP table” for classic legacy applications, OS4.1 libraries designed around the C language, and there for used function pointers instead legacy JMP address approach.

Because of the two entry point model it allows translation between OS4.x API and legacy OS3.x API. without AmigaOS4.1 application requiring to use legacy API.

And 68k code can use ppc libraries and ppc code can use 68k libraries.
Which is important.

Some software that bang paula registers works using paula emulator that redirect audio to AHI:

@ppcamiga1

of course they can

that is necessary for the concept (to use PPC libraries). Otherwise you would need all double. As in some cases PPC code can use 68k libraries as far as I know

About the screenshot:

If it's AROS 68k, avoid the name Workbench, the name Workbench is a registered trademark, using this in an AROS distribution could cause a lot of trouble for AROS.

Is it Wanderer ?
If the answere is 'YES' use this name, it will avoid problems.

Is it a Copy of the AOS Workbench?
If the answere is 'YES' don't pack it into a distribution without the permission of the Owner.
