Well, I'm suprised to see Magellan using name 'Workbench Screen'. Ok, something new every day.

@OneTimer1

it is a preference "Workbench:use" in Display to use the default screen and Magellan calls it "Workbench Screen" then. At the time it was logic because Magellan could only run on the Workbench

@OlafS25

Some programs look for the public screen named “workbench”, the name is important for things to work correct, its not something you can remove.

Friend DiscreetFX,

I have to say this is a staggeringly unprofessional behavior for someone whose screen name and presence are so tightly linked to the public image of a company (albeit an ostensibly irrelevant one)

What, oh what. I wonder, have this fellow Amiga enthusiast done to you to be deemed worth of such picking? Tell me, I beg you, and let's restore the harmony that always, always is supposed to exist between us children of the Workbench, brothers in Kickstart.

Warmly yours,
MEGA_RJ_MICAL, MD PHD ESQUIRE

Actually, it is the name of the default Intuition screen regardless of whether you run DOpus or not - the point here in the screenshot is that focus is on the console, and not on anything DOpus.

Magellan could always run on its own screen instead of using the default public "Workbench Screen". When using default public screen "Workbench Screen", one must use the OS preferences tools to set screen mode etc.

@kolla

Now I'm confused, I thought that DOpus could be used in a "Workbench" replacement mode, but since I mostly used DiskMaster for all of my file management needs, I installed a couple versions of DOpus, but never learned how to use it fully. Wasn't DOpus, or Magellan used by many Amiga users as a Workbench replacement? And, if it was, did that mean that those users could save memory by not loading Workbench at all, by starting DOpus/Magellan from the S;Startup, or UserStartup script? (By save memory, I mean save a small amount by not having both Workbench and DOpus/Magellan running at the same time)

I had always intended to learn more about DOpus/Magelllan (since I had purchased it, to see if I would like to switch to using it instead of my normal DiskMaster use, which I assumed DOpus/Magellan could do many more things), but I never took the time to set it all up and learn how to use it.

@amigadave

All you say is correct, one can run as Workbench replacement, or on its own screen - it's really up to the user.

But that has nothing to do with the name of the default screen of Intuition, which just happen to also be named "Workbench"

Try booting without startup sequence, make the CLI window a little smaller and see what it says in the screen bar?
That's right - "Workbench Screen".
