| I have been using AmiCygnix on my X5000 a bit lately. It is very slow though. I use a Radeon HD 6850 graphics card. Would using a faster graphics card make a difference? Maybe one with 3D support? If I understand things correctly I need a Radeon HD 77xx or better card for that. Last edited by Niolator on 16-Apr-2020 at 09:18 AM.

Amicygnix is all about 2D. Have you read the display driver manual?
There is some hints there about how to get the best performance.
But for the best joy with your X5000 you really should get a radeonhd southern island graphics card. Polaris seems to be the next best choice atm but not a bad choice eighter compared to keeping your 6850 card. |

I don't know what "very slow" means for you, but I can say, that a Radeon HD 6450 is not much slower than my Radeon HD 7770 on my X5000. Especially with the latest version 1.5 of AmiCygnix performance should be good. Is everything slow on your system?
3D support does not help as the X11 server has no support for this.
Is it a fresh install? Maybe you should refresh the caches with "Refresh-ALL-Caches.bat" you can find in "Cygnix:S/Utilities". This has a great impact on the performance.
What is the filesystem used for the partition you installed AmiCygnix?

Manuals are for wimps. Now that I have followed the instructions in the manual you mentioned it is a lot faster. Thanks for the tip.
I am planning to replace my graphics card with a newer one. I tried a Radeon RX 570 that I use in another computer but the model I have must not be supported by the latest Radeon HD drivers.

That would be right. It wouldn't be supported because you need the Radeon RX driver to drive it. Unless that's what you meant. Last edited by Hypex on 16-Apr-2020 at 06:26 PM.

If you want slow, try running it on a BlizzardPPC ;) |

Yes, but that is a part of the Radeon HD package, right? I don't need to do anything manually to activate it, do I? |

You can always double check the basics if you encounter a problem .
Check that you have the following enabled in your sys: Kickstart/Kicklayout file
MODULE Kickstart/RadeonRX.chip
and that the following is present in your
sys:Kickstart directory
RadeonRX.chip

The line in the Kicklayout file was missing. I have added it now and I will make another try with the RX 570 card this weekend. |

Nice! Now my RX 570 card works fine, then I don't need to buy a new card. I wonder if there is any 3D support for RX 570 in AmigaOS 4.1? I guess I'll notice when I have tried it more.
edit: I just found information on wiki.amiga.org that it has 3D support. That is an improvement for me. Last edited by Niolator on 18-Apr-2020 at 07:53 PM.
