@gryfon

Great work.

I was watching some of Steve's videos about AROS last night on YT, then I watched a video of AROS 68K on Vampire. I thought from that video that 68k JIT was built into AROS now but it seems that is still not available on x86.

Would make AROS a really serious competitor if that was included.

Maybe I might try AROS 68k in WinUAE and maybe even on my A1200!

There is a FS-UAE Version with JIT for AROS x86, If it is there depends on the distribution or on the software the the user installed.

@OneTimer1

Thanks. But I take it you still can't just launch a 68K app from AROS like you can in MorphOS/OS4? It would have to run it FS-UAE right?

@kamelito

Friend Kamelito,

One of my recent inventions - a Zorro III-compatible Sarcasm Detector™ (patent pending, don't get any ideas!) gives spikes while reading your question. Additionally, one of my old MIDI-connected Atari ST peripherals - the 520 Troll Scanner© - just woke the neighborhood. In hindsight, connecting it to a kalxon air horn was admittedly a mistake. Don't see this is a sign of weakness, however! My next invention is a bouncy rebound castle, draped in steadfast resolve!

But I digress! The Detector and the Scanner lead me to believe your intentions aren't up to par with the stringent AmigaWorld ethics. In fact, The Detector task quit with exit code 2: "Ambiguous message posted".

From now on, friend Kamelito, you are strongly urged to refrain from the lure of shoddy semantics. Furthermore, you are well advised to the uphold the good reputation that Amiga message boards across the world holds and enjoys. If not, then I fear for us all. UNCLE SASSENRATH SEES ALL OF US EVERY TIME WE OPEN EXEC.LIBRARY!!!

@DBAlex

You need to use UAE to run Amiga 68k code in Aros x86/64. Michal Shulz is working on a 68k JIT for AROS on ARM since ARM can operate in big endian mode like 68k and PPC whereas x86/64 operates in little endian mode. I don't know if AROS on Arm has interpreted 68k emulation if if Michal decided to go straight for JIT.

I've read that MorphOS X64 will be able to run PPC and 68k binaries but I don't know if this is correct and how it will work and what speed penalties might be incurred. I guess Bigfoot would be able to answer those questions since he seems to be the driving force behind MorphOS development at the moment.

For more than 20 years I have been pining for proper modern Amiga keyboards with Amiga layouts, USB and otherwise, and now suddenly there are a handful of such projects... next up someone will implement IPv6 capable IP stack? The end must be near.

After checking the mini mechanical keyboards with Amiga layout from Steve on Amiga 34 I went hunting for my MorphOS setup something similar and I couldn't find any option to fully match my needs.

On a perfect condition I would opt for a 105 keys mechanical with RGB light switch (not software controlled) with white / beige keys on a white keyboard case with reversed shaped L enter key on a 110 - 130 euros price tag. Dedicated multimedia keys could be a plus but not a requirement.

Well, if it matched all conditions perhaps I could consider paying a little more but L shaped enter and white kb case seems next to impossible to find (let alone combined with RGB switch on keyboard).

Even WASD keyboards which offer high customization, can't do that (plus their price tag is extremely high to be honest).

If anyone could make / outsource something similar, I would definitely buy it in a heartbeat.

And while we are at it, a Tank mouse with wheel support would be cool as well :)

While we are on the subject of 'Amigafying' PC keyboards; what is the general remapping convention on Classic 'miggy machines in particular the Terrible Fire / SX32 CD32 expansions in regards to mapping the Help key onto a PC keyboard attached?

I think it's Print Screen normally but I'm not sure if this varies depending on expansion/adaptor?

... plus is there an easy way to test this? What is the most common use of the Help key outside of flight sim controls? Does it bring AmigaGuide material up under some programs?

Friend MEGA_RJ_M|CAL,

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for making this personal project of mine into something more: A MOVEMENT!

Yes, a MOVEMENT pursuing disruption and lighthearted disobedience under a shared name, not unlike Luther Blisset or Banksy.

From the deepest recesses of my sunken yet still perfectly working heart,

Friend AP,

only David Doyle himself might (mind well: might!) hold the power to banish me, just like someone almost equally powerful had the power to conjure my presence.

BUT! Regardless of such powers still running through the wilting veins of Amigaworld.net or not, what rule, what rules, what commandments am I violating exactly?

Even you don't know! You invoke some divine punishment to render me into exile and yet you can't name a reason for it. Such is the dire state of things with human beings these days, wishing nothing but the misery of others for no other particular reason than a dilute form of some ancestral evil.

Worry not, though, friend AP: I still care for you and won't curse your name or ask for an equal treatment to be bestowed upon you. I still love you dearly as a comrade in Amiga.

Regards. The best of them.

There is, but it is left to the reader as an exercise, as they say.

AFAIK the Amiga Help key is mapped to the Scroll Lock key on a PC keyboard.

Yes but the implementation depends on the programmer. Help is indeed a logical keyboard shortcut to bring up documentation material.

You can try pressing HELP with focus on a Workbench window while SnoopDOS is running...

Press the help key in programs that support it.

Quote:

Pressing the help key brings up an AmigaGuide document in several programs. Menu Help allows to hold the right mouse button over a menu item and then press the help key to bring up help for that menu item. Later AmigaOS Workbench versions supported this but the guide was missing. I made a Workbench guide, with menu help, which was included in the now defunct unofficial boing bag project for AmigaOS 3.9. If you installed this, maybe it works now.

Hint:
Program AmigaGuides are in something like LOCALE:Help/... or HELP:.... Sorry, I haven't turned on an Amiga in probably over a year now. RIP Amiga. Even the technology it had is being forgotten today.
