Hi

It is strange that in most A500Plus computers the battery has chosen to attack component U12 and the adjacent resistor. I can appreciate the resistor cus the legs are so close to the battery end but often only the U12 has been hammered and everything else is generally OK. I guess there is good reason. Don't even know what U12 does.. perhaps someone here knows.

According to my old manual for the A500 (not the Plus), U12 is just an octal buffer between the CPU and the internal video bus. In the A500 it was a 74F244, but I see in the Plus it is a 74LS244 (lower power).

It's a pretty bog standard chip that you can buy at any tech store and replace yourself if you can solder and desolder.
