| Did someone forget to renew it?
I will volunteer to chip in to pay for it if it helps.
Although did you know you can now get free SSL certificates: https://letsencrypt.org/getting-started/

There really is a general feeling of "last one out turn out the lights" on this site now especially following amigadave's recent comments before returning to the ether
Little to no moderation, not SSL certificate renewal and is anyone going to remember to pay the web hosting fees when their next due? _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

P.S. I'm really enjoying the mountain of Covid-19 Thermometer related spam I receive due the hack attack and email lists being compromised on AmigaWorld.net a few years ago! More fool me for sticking with the site following that debacle, though I'm assured the security is improved now with better encryption of passwords etc.

Glad it's not just me who feels like that. This site used to be thriving, not sure what has happened.
Infact the whole Amiga scene seems to be eerily quiet at the moment.
Did everyone just suddenly disappear?
Or am I just not looking at the places where everyone is?
Amiga.org seems quiet, Amigas.net quite quiet... maybe I'll have to look at EAB!

| amigaworld.net is owned by AEON and run by AmigaKit, this is symptomatic, it happens more or less regularly with all their domains. Last edited by kolla on 28-May-2020 at 10:31 PM.

Is there not a volunteer to take donations for "we really mean it. We need X $ to get beyond this" and then use those $ to make this go away?
My ISP keeps one certificate and lets the rest of them slide. They told me it wasn't worth the $ to keep up those certificates.
AmigaWorldNet is THE place where I keep track of what is going on in the Amiga community .. and post.
There isn't a place I go on the internet, that doesn't have a place to donate. None of them cite a schedule of costs (OK there is *one*) and give a suggested formula for "use of" vs "$ to contribute".
I instantly (25 ? 30? years ago) put $ into my SlashDot account to offset the "ads" that were run to fuel the cost of the operation. There was a cost per page visited. Then with about the 3rd change of hands the "account" option just disappeared. No talk, no whining .. just wasn't there and ads came back with a vengence. "/." doesn't expect donations. Users' only "control" is to quit visiting.
My best guess about the reduction in attention here is "things change". You'd have to be psychologist to tease out why. _________________ ..effects of civilization upon...nature, the growing gap between what education was supposed to accomplish and what it consisted of, the national debt and...high taxes, the problem of the excess cost of medical care -- Philip Wylie, 1951 |

If you mean Amigans.net, it's not quiet at all. It merely addresses a smaller user base (as it focuses mostly on AmigaOS4 rather than on all flavours). Considering this, the traffic there is pretty reasonable. We get stuff posted every day.

... and so AmigaWorld.net limps on for the time being! Is there enough money to maintain the running of the site? Is there anyone left to run it? Are the outages related to the expired SSL certificate or just more signs that the wheels are generally coming off? Who knows? The silence is deafening! _________________ "Art challenges technology. | After logging in and then starfing to look through the forum bitDefender has thrown up this warning over five times up to now.

I hope so. Even if just for the knowledge on this forum that is indexed by Google. There is the Google cache but better for the site to be online.
@Trixie
Sorry yes I typed that quick, Amigans.net. Fair enough yes I guess the OS4 install base is quite small.
@kolla
Really? I thought A-EON just owned Amiga.org, didn't know they owned AmigaWorld.net too.
@Hypex
Looks like someone used my recommendation... they are now using a Let's Encrypt SSL certificate.

Amigaworld seems to operate by the maxim WWCD (What would Commodore Do?). Would Commodore fail to renew their SSL certificate four years in a row? Yes they would!
Anyway, I'm glad the site is back up. Every year I wonder, "Are they gone for good?"

Well Elon Musk has successfully developed a private manned low Earth orbit rocket system that launched for the ISS tonight! This is despite him having little to no people skills and the stupidity to insult the hero diver that saved the Thailand youth football team trapped in the underwater cave system a few years ago!
The comparison is A-EON can bring exotic PPC custom hardware to market but can't efficiently renew a website's SSL certificate annually _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Maybe you told bitdefender to save a previous certificate?
The bets are on for august 27th, 11:46:54 CEST :) _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

The certificate is issued for amigaworld.net. If you're going to www.amigaworld.net, it will mis-match.
The cert also has a Subject Alternate Name, but it's set to amigaworld.net also. They should have used www.amigaworld.net in one or the other.
You can stop BitDefender from complaining, by bookmarking / navigating to amigaword.net, without the leading www. |

There is no reason not to.
There still seems to be several connections not going through SSL though. But no news there, I suppose...
