@amigadave

hey dave.. so you know, most problems i have encounter so far i have fixed. i have started this project from almost zero knowledge.. so most of it is just me.
the X-1000 has been steady so far. the amistore problems i have is probably a reset amigakit need to do. see if you can login to amisphere.. i can't, and that's nothing to do with os4 or X-1000.

not sure why amigakit hasent contacted me yet..

@all
Tested: clean os4 install, untouched, all settings default
when setting up internet for the first time i got this at the install report:

RTL8139" address 192.168.8.137 has been leased until 09/06/2020 4:05 AM and
will be renewed before it expires.

so i started from scratch again, but this time i installed
version 4.5 of the AmiSSL library before hand and this time i did not get
that message, moving on.

before installing anything, i downloaded amistore from a-eon website
and from another computer

installed it. when done, i tried to login. but same as always, nothing
happens just stays not logged in.

then using amiupdate im getting another AmiSSL update 4.6 so i try that, but
only that for now. then i try amistore again. same result
then i try os4.1.1 update, and same result.

@noXLar

To help you out bit on the font problem, the "download_fonts" script generates a script in "t:" called "fetchfont1"

The script "fetchfont1" uses command “wget” stored in odyssey/datas directory,
so maybe it’s possible to update “wget” with newer version. (And it uses XadUnFile in C: to unpack the fonts, not relevant, but maybe interesting for later.)

its also possible that fonts are moved not located at placed they used to be, its possible that you need to download the fonts individually. until the script is fixed.

(the fonts are not included because of license issues, this way it has to be downloaded.)

it’s also possible that the script might be more up to date for MorphOS or AROS.

I guess Ka1e is the right person to ask about for OS4, he is the person who made it happen, FAB and deadwood be might 2en best option to ask.

Kas1e mostly only post on Amigans.net these days.

The fonts might also be copied from Linux I guess, or maybe windows, you need to run fixfont after download and copying the files to fonts directory. I once did this for Chinese font, when worked on UTF8.library.

>i tried your suggestion and gave me this

No, you did not try what I wrote, you think you did there is a difference.

Open Download_fonts script in text editor.

As I wrote its a script, I never wrote its a URL.

On line 23, you find that script pipes a line of text into a file t:fetchfont.
you also notice that t:fetchfont is delated at line 38.
the fetchfont is the script that actually downloads your fonts.

You also notice the name of fonts is supposed to download from line 26 to 36

If you again take look at line 23, you find that wget is supposed to download the fonts from:

“http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/corefonts/the%20fonts/final/*.exe” this .exe files are actually zip packed, so they can be unpacked by winzip.

You can however go to https://sourceforge.net/projects/corefonts/files/the%20fonts/final/ and download the files manually, and unpack the files on windows.

Again you failed to open download_fonts script in text editor, like notepad.

I did not say you should use snoopy or snoopdos...

>ther than 1 “tahoma.ttf” should i rename all the ttf files

Correct the Tahoma.ttf is the font, this a true type font, so it does not have the .font extension.

Copy this file to “sys:fonts/_TrueType” on your workbench partiton.

I expect the Odyssey to work with true type fonts, but if you like this fonts to be available to other programs you should convert the fonts to bullet fonts.

1. Run Sys:System/TypeManager to convert true type fonts to bullet fonts.

Source Directory should be: fonts:_TrueType
Destination Directory should be: fonts:

1.1 Press "Select All" button
1.2 Press "Install"

2. Run “Sys:system/FixFonts”

You also find lots of useful fonts in windows
“C:\windows\fonts” directory

A few things...

Quote:
this was from amisphere: The credentials for the site www.amisphere.com
and realm "AmiSphere Login" were rejected

So, the username for AmiSphere is an "as" followed by six numbers, which is generated for you on sign up. With the password you specify. Is this type of login failing on the website?

If it fails on AmiSphere there is a problem. Mine was logging onto AmiSphere but failing on AmiStore app.

Quote:
also tried 50 times to download freeware SDK browser

If you can actually load AmiStore app then that's good. Some people are unable to load it at all. That means your AmStore should be working fine. Just the login is broken.

Quote:
pm'ed Amikit about resetting account/password. but haven't heard anything.
not sure if my pm in amigaworld ever got though, no "sent' pm's to check

Might want to check last time he logged in. And perhaps other avenues like amiga.org. If you have an account.

Quote:
just a question, how big can os4 boot disk be? i had 18gb last time using sfs2

2TB and beyond should be fine. I have a 1TB drive. From when HDDs were popular. But check this guide:
https://wiki.amigaos.net/wiki/UserDoc:AmigaOS_File_Systems

Quote:
MAXTRANSFER 1FE00
MASK FFFFFFFE

Should i only do 2gb system disk? with same settings?

need quick answer please

Sorry for my slow answer. Don't do that. Those are old Amiga IDE settings. This is what I have on my X1000. Should be the default settings. For onboard SATA.

Maxtransfer: 7FFFFFFF
Mask: FFFFFFFE

I use 2GB for my system partition. Anything 2-4GB should be enough. Don't forget about the boot volume to hold the amigaboot.of file. Or you can leave it on your main boot system.

That's fine. Your internet works! Well, Roadshow used DHCP to get an IP address, so the network is fine on the OS4 end.

Quote:

Why was that?

Quote:

At least AmiUpdate works.

Might want to check that AmiStore email you get from AEON with your AmiSpere username.

If you are already running FE there is no need to reinstall it. Just install the updates. Unless you like to reinstall things from scratch.

The X1000 is a great piece of hardware (for AmigaOS4 use), so I hope that support for it will start up again soon.

Support the the X1000 hardware? Not just OS4? Well the X1000 is pretty much EOL. But is supported by software. And drivers to an extent.

But since the parent company that made it was sold off, the firmware is somewhat stuck in some red tape it seems. Work is ongoing to source it for an update. More legal issues.

Thanks for that advice, I'll first try updating my system, before I go backward and reinstall everything.

By support for the X1000 hardware, I mean to say that what ever the problem is that is preventing the latest video card drivers from working on the X1000, the same as they work on the X5000, should be resolved, so that X1000 owners can enjoy a similar video card experience from AmigaOS4 as the X5000 owners do. I have not seen any official statements from A-Eon, or the group of developers they are supporting (including Hans De Ruiter), about any work being done to find and resolve the problem that is preventing Polaris chipset video cards from working on the X1000 systems. A simple statement like "we are aware of the problem and are working on a solution", or "we are aware of the problem and working on a solution is on our list of things to resolve in the future", would be a welcome bit of information. I just hope the answer from A-Eon and/or Hans De Ruiter, is not "we are aware of the problem, and have no plans to fix it now or any time in the future".

What parent company are you talking about? Are you referring to Varisys I guess? Certainly not the restructuring of A-Eon, as I don't see how that could cause a problem with the firmware of the X1000. And why would getting approval from the new owner of Varisys to do firmware modifications for the X1000 be a legal issue? I would think that it would just be a simple issue of paying for the work needed to be done, if a firmware update will fix the problem that is preventing the X1000 from being able to use Polaris based video cards.

Hemm.. Well RX card suck with older MiniGL/Warp3D games, and I think that’s actually a major downgrade, at least until older games are updated and support Warp3D nova, OpenGL ES, not sure about video acceleration stuff, if that is the same as HD cards or not, but is it really a major upgrade? I don’t feel yet that I'm left out of anything, at least not yet.

@NutsAboutAmiga

I'm back!! I'm very sorry for taking so long time to answer.
So it seemed like i had more problems in my os4 installation, so more problems was starting to show and i felt i needed start all over again.

The problems i had could just have been me doing it wrong from start when installing stuff. So, to eliminate all my possible wrong doings, i started a clean install from scratch and formated the disk. but, i did take a full backup of the os4 boot hd'en along with my other 4 attempts. :)

but before i did.

I went over what you said and managed to get fetchfont1 from "t"
but, mine had some errors and it would halt quicly.

anyway, i downloading all the microsoft truetype fonts and upacked all the TTF files, to sys:fonts/_Truetype then i used Typemanage to convert them bullet fonts/os4 fonts. the converted ones ended up sys:font automaticly.

and restarted the X1000, and actually felt that this might work.
but, there where no changes to amistore behaviour. or anything else

so when i again run the script "download_fonts" located inside odyssey directory. it failed to run, and it worked before. i figure it might have been me changed something..also a number of other things was changed aswell. Amiupdate did not work anymore, it uses 5min to start, and another 5min to scan again with no sussess.

so, i felt my problems was bigger and and i had to do it from scratch.

There i was, again with new installed OS4 boot disk.

Before doing anything, reasons for download error and amiupdate problems, might have been linked to what i did to get the X1000 getting online.

I normally head to os4:internet draver and clicked "new connection" and as always it ended with a message "dialer is not used for your network" and pointed me to use Prefs/internet instead. but i never did because it was already online and working at this point, no need doing anything else. did the same on 460ex back then.

But, is that the correct way?, will it matter doing it different or correctly?

Anyway, i wanted to do it correct, and learn about how it all is suppose to be working. So I searched on Hyperion/forum site and found one excellent step by step guide by Raziel.

Found the easy and the correct way to do. now that is out of the way

problem i had now, that got me confused.

1. Ii was using brand new formated installation of os4.1
2. internet is setup perfectly
3, not installed any software from web other than some very few in "extra" on os4.1 cd. like ibrowse, i have not installed odessey.

But when i try the new system, it still have some of the same problems with Amiupdater, it was still behaving slow as omg.. 5min before i can scan

So this got me thinking.. since this was fresh install i thought the issue might be something else, i tried other ruters, other network cables, reseted ruters and later upgraded firmware.

nothing i did would get me back to the normal Amiupdate i had when i first installed OS4 this year.

Again i went on hyperion/forum for some clues, and found this from 2018
--------------------------------------------
So, the remaining question would be: Why couldn't you connect to "www.amiupdate.net" on port 80? It might be a temporary problem on the server, at your ISP, or in the DNS system, or anywhere in between. Try again later, and if still unsuccessful, try opening the same address in your browser and see if that behaves any differently.

Edit 2: I just tried on my PC with FireFox, and it worked - made a redir to "amiupdate.codebench.co.uk". I thought: WTF? Then I tried again with Odyssey on the X1k, and it worked there too. So either it is really intermittent, or something was just fixed.
------------------------------------------------------------

i did the same and using amiupdate.codebench.co.uk as server in AmiUpdate.

And wolla! this worked..did a quick scan and found many updates. but before doing anything else, i now have reached a state i'm comfortable to bring up amistore issue again, if possible a step by step guide to successfull install Amistore & stuff needed for it.

i have done a full backup of the system..
------------------------------------------

Im trying to learn from all of this, it's been a while since i used os4. learned few things alredy, and i'm still is very early noob, so don't think i know what you trying to explain to me at first..:) baby steps.

@Hypex

Yes i got my account back in august 2012, i used it on my sam460ex for many years and bought nearly all software there.

TrevorDick gave me the loggin details in a PM in amigaworld inbox.
username for amistore is some letters and numbers but only 3 numbers in total, and i did not get the chance to specify anything, but they gave me my full name as password.

yes, as mention earlyer (comment 6) amisphere web page loggin fails, but at least it gave me a error message, same with Opera&firefox

yes, it starts normal, and loads up as normal. just after i entered loggin details and clicking ok. amistore remain the same, not logged in. no added information is shown, it just logs in and nothing happend. no error messages. if i try to download or buy something, it again ask me to loggin in a endless loop.

yea, have an account in amiga.org. will try that one later. if account survived the changes that was made.

sorry, i meant partition, should have mention that. like how big can a boot partition containing os4 could be.

Right!! i do use the old Amiga IDE settings then, i found those settings somewhere at a forum, dont remember anymore. but i guess i need a 5th attemp to install os4 then hehe.. my own fault.. thanks.

yes mine is 2gb

blocksize 512
buffer 600
using sfs/02

yea, i learned the ways of the internet:)

i did install AmiSSL in my 3rd attempt, well, i think i ended up installing at least 2-3 different AmiSSL.. not sure where i found them, but i guess i found some other program installs. im sure it just updated.

just checked email from A-Eon, they did report some upcomming changes in loggin, but not more than that.

but, what i found was this tip:

http://www.amistore.net/forgotten_password.php

i wish i tested it when i could lol..

Ah that yes that would be because CFE only has an "old fashiohed" VGA BIOS emulator. And it needs a UEFI emulator now. Or something to that effect. They have done "blind" tests to see if Workbench comes up but it fails. Hans De Ruiter did post about it when someone tested an Rx card that failed. It was related the VGA x86 emulator. So they do know about it and do want to resolve it.

Yes, Varisys, that's the one. What forms the basis of the Nemo X1000 is a P.A.Semi Electra board. Well, the board was made by them, incluidng the firmware, and you had to sign up to get an SDK that included the CFE source. Varisys then produced the X1000 for AEON. And OS4 boot code would have been added in. Apple bought out P.A.Semi. And Someone else bought Varisys. The OS4 mods with some developer. So, the CFE source was lost, in the buyout. They need to get permission to get it back. Pity no one we know has downloaded this SDK so we coud pass it on. So all updates are stalled until that happens. Though I wonder if Cloanto bought CFE so Hyperion nor anyone else like AEON couldn't get it.

"Ultra Electronics Holdings PLC"

you can download CFE from broadcom, they own it.

https://docs.broadcom.com/docs/12358579

And luckily for the Amiga community, it should be possible to restore X1000 back to working firmware, a pretty nice feature.
I wonder if it might be possible to test firmware without flashing, maybe TFTP ?
Broadcom use exactly the same CPU in one of there own products.

I guess you will need to added onboard chipset support,
and FastFileSystem support.

Now if we are really lucky maybe the changes are in some open repo somewhere.
