Launching Amiga Future CD contents on CDTV

Hello,

Very soon, I will be owing a CDTV Amiga. I am an Amiga Future subscriber alas I get no CD but consider the subscription upgrade. Last AF CD issue, contains ie. Sword of Soda, which I like very much.

Then, please advice me on how to proceed, in order to be capable of launching software placed on AF CD, on my newly-to-come CDTV. I will be also getting an FDD plugged in separately to the CDTV.

What I know of now... (consider this quite a novice post here, never used a CD or an HDD or even a WHDLoad)... anyway, is this technically possible that I

1. Get the Workbench disquette
2. Launch a CDTV with the said disquette
3. Insert AF cover CD
4. Launch the ECS game somehow?

I presume not.

I know ADF games load only at boot (if that's the ADF version). However, I know WHDLoad games need more RAM (if that's a WHDLoad version), but I will be too, buying a CDTV Wicher card also, with 8 MB of RAM. I know also, WHDLoad games might need an HDD but Wicher delivers IDE also, so I will be probably having an HDD too, most probably, via the CF card.

So ultimately, please advice the possible path(s) that will enable me to use Amiga Future cover CD ie. games (ECS games) on my CDTV (or possibly, any software that came on FDDs originally and is put into AF cover CD).

@mcbone

Ought to, as long as I copy ie. WHDLoad contents (if one exists) into the CF card mounted via IDE (provided via ie. an extension card).

So as you say, the Amiga Future CD is just another storage that has just folders and files in it, without any booting options?

If that's so, what's the ECS/OCS/AGA contents then, mostly? Af files or WHDLoad? Or maybe Workbench install distributions?

@DiskDoctor

Yes absolutely. There is a lot of non-AGA content that should work fine. Just boot to Workbench and you can access it okay. I suppose you could set up some of the games as WHDload if you have the RAM or ADF them.

I am pretty sure that the Amiga Future CD doesn't boot (I could be wrong) but you don't need it to - just load up WB and away you go.

I think all CDTVs were 1.3 though so I would expect them to be OCS/half ECS - ie the 1MB Agnus. Which actually makes it a pretty solid machine for running old stuff on so you should get a lot of compatibility.

Always a bit crazy that - the A500Plus was out with ECS and 2.04 but CBM were still selling the 1.3 CDTV.
