@AmigaBlitter

Hilarious!

It seems that it pays to milk any older computing trademarks.

@DiskDoctor

Whos is milking what?

Acer owns the brandname.

Acer wants to sell lowend HW via WalMart.

Acer doesn't want (it's name) to be to closely associated with such cheap products.

GateWay brand might be a known name for some of the potential costumers.

@Kronos

1. Get (buy, re-register) a trademark that was once used within technology area

2. Release the newly-branded stock items on a market that remembers it

3. Profit!

@AmigaBlitter

Gateway2k were an odd company - I don’t think they ever took that "cow aesthetic" through to the actual PC cases, they really should have. That might’ve created a following and justified a premium over other boxes.

@AmigaBlitter

... I hope they will be good products.

A few months ago my wife bought a very good acer branded laptop with Windows 10. It is a very handy machine for zoom meetings, etc.

Gateway's cow obsession was tied to their origins in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Great Plains are cattle country.

Once they made the move to Silicon Valley, California they lost their identity completely. Hence their buyout and scuttling of the Gateway and eMachines brands.
