I'm in the pancakes camp. I'm not crazy about the Amiga.com forum software, but it's probably a lot less buggy.

| Okay, I’ll be the first to toss my 2 pea out ….
A) It took months to migrate Amiga.org.
B) After the migration, if it navigated and worked, that was good enough.
C) As it stands today, on a real Amiga using iBrowse 2.5, AmigaWorld.net looks a helluva lot better than A.O. & and is much easier to navigate. Looking at A.O. with the new software is like interpreting a Picasso.
D) Almost nobody came back.
That is all for now……

... and yet we are never quite sure when the next hack attack will come on Amigaworld.net, whether the data stolen will be encrypted to a modern standard or whether the moderators would even notice never mind report it if it happened!
Would this improve under a new software framework? I suppose it wouldn't matter if a 3 month transition pushed the remnant to the English Amiga Board or Facebook!

Under GDPR all data breaches must be reported. As far as I know, as long as some of the data is relevant to EU citizens this is the case, no matter where the site is hosted.

The second time would hopefully go smoother.

Attitude seems to be that since they didn't leave calling card so it didn't happen. Even tho passwords on spam are unique to site and changed after last breach. |

| It's a yes from me.
If it's newer, safer, easier to maintain, bring it on.
And it would bring at least one giant advantage: The ability to use the "Unread posts" feature.
Best regards,

The landing page of Amiga.org when you enter the forum section is just horrible to read. If Amigaworld has to change I hope it doesn't look like amiga.org, I don't go there now because I just don't like the layout, fonts and overall format. _________________

Same here. It's hard to read, and news articles are just any other thread. Shame. I really liked the old site, but I understand the admin issues. If AWN goes that way I guarantee it will lose active posters, especially for those trying to use it from 68K machines.

Yeah, I agree. The problem with using the forums as the landing page is that it gives off a distinct "This is a backwater of the Internet" vibe. The software itself doesn't have to be configured this way, as can be seen on the SMF home page.

The oh so very sensitive data stolen on Amigaworld.net! The treasure trove of credit cards and bank account access credentials! Hackers must be lining up to attack Amigaworld.net and finally afford that Gulfstream they always dreamed of._________________ I HAVE ABS OF STEEL -- CAN YOU SEE ME? CAN YOU HEAR ME? OK FOR WORK |

| I wonder what the sense of this question can be.
Although some security issues might be concerning, deciding what software and hardware solutions to use is not something users should choose.
This forum is a service offered by someone to a community, and the former are the only people who can wisely choose what to do, according to the requisites (Amiga browsers rarely are up-to-date), the budget (some solutions are costy) and the results they're aiming to.
Just my 2 cents |

| Just archive this site and start a new one. If people want to talk about an old topic they can link to the archived site and carry on. |

That sounds like a workable plan. If ever a site needed to be archived, it's this one. _________________ "Unix is supposed to fix that." -- Jay Miner |

| If it means the website won't look right on iBrowse then perhaps leave it as is.
These forums are already being squeezed by Facebook etc, making here less appealing to classic Amiga users will only have a negative impact.

And yet they still hack it and pretend we’ve been compromised and attempt extortion! One day they’ll con one of us probably that chap that gave the Viva Amiga team money no strings attached!

Its more than that, vunerability in software could give unpredictable results, malicious software to be installed and run.
Not to mention owner reputation, admin credibility and privacy law requirements etc.
The website is everything, the window to the world and represent how it wants to be seen / perceived to others.
Though you may have a respectable different view, thats fine._________________ Download 499.26 Mbps, 659.94 Mbps Upload :) |
