And not only Jaca. To make Wayfarer easier to upgrade in the future a lot of changes have been made to the sdk by Piru. Work that is not visible but totally needed.
As kas1e says...it can be done in aos4 but is not a easy task.

@kas1e

Check changes in our SDK and you will know which things have to be updated on AmigaOS4.x sdk before porting new webkit can be started. Wayfarer needed fixes in pthread, curl, newer GCCs, openssl and other linux shit including moving global errno to thread errno as global errno was overwritten from various task in the same time :). Some fixes needed to be done in MorphOS itself so even having updated SDK for OS4 without updated OS4 will give you working but crashing application (Os4 can have this things done correctly earlier but still it needs to be analyzed)

Yeah, let’s get the port dependencies written or at least identified!

Easy enough: have a look at https://svn.webkit.org/repository/webkit/releases/WebKitGTK/webkit-2.30/Source/cmake/OptionsGTK.cmake. While you obviously won't need GTK itself, the other link libs will mostly match. You can also check Wayfarer's list of external components (in LINCESES.txt)

IMHO the main dependency for an OS4 port of Wayfarer is just Jacadcaps.

I have already donated and I could continue in next months, even if I don’t use mos as primary os.
Sadly I don’t think this kind of support could be sufficient for an OS4 port.
Maybe a bounty with a start of at least 2000euro could be useful.

@Fl@sh

Sorry but it is not realistic for me to work on a OS4 port. This stuff isn't easy and often borders on the verge of burnout - for example it took us over 2 months to figure out the memtrashing that was the main cause of crashes before Wayfarer 1.5. Piru even prepared a special libc that leaked freed memory pages and marked them as invalid with MMU so that we could try and home in on the issue (turned out to be caused by the POSIX spec not being very precise which led to our pthread destructor handling to slightly differ from the Linux implementation which WebKit relies on).

You would have to make it at least 20000 for me to seriously think of supporting more operating systems.

LOL so many people assuming I don't know what's involved in the work to make a webkit port or whatever

Good friends of mine are webkit porting specialists, they maintain the webkit for sony playstation products used in PS4, PS5, Vita etc. for web apps like Netflix, Hulu etc. I already talked to them about OS4 port, their first question is, what dependencies are available and which GCC version is available. (and their first port was the PS3 port - which is of course PPC based)

I also have money to pay them to do it. Yes, high five figures is the likely budget.

But as usual, all Amiga people is so negative and shittalking. And even wonderful devs who's very smart, not interested to collaborate but rather do it alone.

Those devices all use Unix-like operating systems...

PlayStation 3: "The base operating used by Sony for the PlayStation 3 is a fork of both FreeBSD and NetBSD called CellOS."

PlayStation 4: "The operating system is Orbis OS, based on FreeBSD 9."

PlayStation 5: "PlayStation 5 system software version 1.01 is the first system software for PlayStation 5. The PlayStation 5 system software is based on FreeBSD 12"

PlayStation Vita: "The system is built on a Unix-base which is derived from FreeBSD and NetBSD."

Special bonus fact: When the PlayStation 3 was released, Webkit was still being actively maintained for big-endian architectures and PowerPC in particular. There was no need to "port" it from little-endian architectures and fix endianess issues.

For some reason I'm smelling "My friends are Webkit specialists and will port if to OS4 if I can collect XXXXXX euros".

@rzookol

Yeah, that all details. Main issue is no jadacaps clone, or at least someone else skilled enough who want put all his time on it. I think we still have on os4 camp capable devs, just they have no interest to spend time on it. Keep the Jada alive at any cost ! :)

@rose

Next question after few month will be "why there no port ot os4 ? what missing?". And again and again someone will try to explain that issue is not the OS itself, but developer wanting spend all his time on it , and then "wait, i have 20$ , let's make a bounty !"

Or, Guy in the pub told me that he works on webkit and will do the porting if we buy him hardware!

Issue with the clone would be the long time support. Sheep Dolly was aging too fast...

@kas1e

The other possibility is to sandbox most of AmigaOS4.x features in MorphOS in some big OS4Emu like application to get apps/environment from OS4.x running in MorphOS but MorphOs still lacks some things compared to AmigaOS4.x and i don't know what is more important, system itself or applications. From my perspective www browser is more important than shaders and support of newer Radeons as i use MorphOS daily and try to use it for all tasks i do.
