No boot after installation of Radeon RX 550 card

I just bought a Radeon RX 550 graphics card for my AmigaOne X5000.

I am initially amazed that I cannot find any power connector on the board. But above all, after plugging in the card, I no longer boot into AmigaOS or Linux. I would point out that I had before a Radeon R7 250 card that work.

Do you have any idea on the problem?

@Amiguy

Which brand did you buy ?

At Amigans.net there is a Asus Arez RX550 in use:

@bennymee

My card is a Sapphire. It's exactly the same that Trevor from A-Eon has tested and concluded that it worked on X5000.

I should point out that when I start AmiaOS, I have one last message:
About to call loader entry at 0x7BD02020.

@Amiguy

Do you have RadeonRX.chip added/loaded on kickstart?

R7 uses RadeonHD.chip, but RX gfxcards uses different driver.

@jabirulo

I actually saw in the following post:

"https://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic_id=43251&forum=33&start=40&viewmode=flat&order=0MODULE Kickstart/RadeonRX.chip"

that it was necessary to change the Kicklayout file of SYS: Kickstart to add MODULE Kickstart / RadeonRX.chip. After adding that, it works fine. But the GL graphics, for example on the screensaver (GLBlockTube) are not more fluid

Now I have the same kind of problem on Linux. But that's another story

Thanks for your help

@Amiguy

OK.
AFAIK the radeon HD gfxcards and GL/3D stuff are more "compaible" than with RX gfxcard.

@jabirulo

Thanks for the information, I confirm indeed. After complete tests, I realize that the Radeon RX 550 card is significantly less efficient than my current Radeon R7 250X card!

Some games don't work at all and most show much lower FPS.

Return to sender!

@Amiguy

The software is the issue at the moment.

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-RX-550-vs-AMD-R7-250X/3925vsm8719.

The RX550 is clearly better once the drivers are sufficient.

@thread,

I'm a bit puzzled by all the buzz about using the latest video cards in any AmigaOS4 system? Don't the older cards from just a few years ago display everything (or nearly everything) that any AmigaOS4 user needs and wants to display just as well? Or is the buzz more about staying current with video card drivers more important so buyers of AmigaOne systems can buy new video cards from local shops that have them in stock, instead of having to buy "new-old-stock" video cards online, or used video cards?

I know that it is important to some users to be able to buy brand new equipment that has a warranty, and I don't blame them for that viewpoint, it is completely valid, if you value the warranty, and don't like trusting previous owners when buying used gear.

I guess another reason might be for the ability to use 4k display monitors, specially if you want to watch 4k movies on your AmigaOS4 computer. Personally, I would rather play movies from a dedicated Blu-Ray player, but that is just me.

Anyway, I'm really interested in reading what other users have to say about why they would want to use a newer RX video card, opposed to say an R7, or an older HD 7xxx card?

@amigadave

I believe RX card Hans has managed to add support for hardware video decompression, whiles HD hard only support yuv422 video outputs. But I believe HW decompression is available publicly yet. Only emotion supports it. So I guess it depends on what you are going to use it for.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Like I wrote, I guess newer video cards are important if you want to watch 4k videos from your AmigaOS4 computer, but do many users actually use an AmigaOS4 computer to play their videos/movies? And how many AmigaOne owners use a 4k monitor?

I don't even own a 4k monitor yet.

@amigadave

Well, you only get a X1000 to play 1080p video if sound quality is low and video compression is bad, I guess the same is true for X5000, so having hardware decompression support is welcome addition.

it depends if you like to download music videos.

I like to stream videos from youtube if the web browser was up to the task,
I can image that happening.

@amigadave

The Polaris cards are currently easier to find for replacement or new systems .

With may newer products there is a trade off between the support of older features and having newer features.

The trade off is that the A-Eon AmigaOS 4.1Warp3D SI driver for older MiniGL programs is not compatible. The new Warp3D Nova driver works very well for newer Warp3D Nova programs . There is an implementation for the old Warp3D programs to run with the Polaris cards called MiniGL Reloaded in the works . Another quick hack option called MiniGL4GL4ES has been released. Some progams work with it but some don't (eg Blender) .

Current advantages of the Polaris cards are :
AmigaOS 4.1 Support for dynamic power management .
Upcoming AmigaOS 4.1 support for accelerated video playback .
