This was a nice surprise just before Christmas. Especially after such a messed up year.

Backed up my sys: drive and did an update. Seems to be working well so far.

I see no mention of an updated network stack for the classic version. So I fear, the OS remains as un-usable as it is now. Not being able to update software via the update tools, because of a stalling network connection.

There one single network stack for all amigaos4 machines: roadshow. Once it will be updated and released, it will then be updated and released for all platforms.

But, be sure that you debug enough your issue and report it somewhere, so it hit os4 Bugzilla and devs at least aware. But if it a classic specific only bug, then chances IMHO low, as they're not many developers left with classics Amigas (and not many classic beta testers too). But if it just a RoadShow issue, then the chances that it will be fixed in the new version are high. You may try to write directly to Olaf Barthel with questions about it.

It's been discussed on one of the forums. I'll try to find the thread after Christmas.

My spec: A4k, CSPPC, Mediator and a supported RTL network card.

@spud101

Only with PCI network cards ?

I did use Amiga Update with CyberstormPPC / BlizzardPPC with Mediators, also with XSurf3 and a 68000 networking device. And I did use a hard to find 10Mbit networking card compatible with OS4 in the Mediators.

@kas1e : here are a few questions from my side which I did not see in the changelog :

1. are the drivers for X-5000 out of beta now ? someone told me there were in debug mode in prerelease (which was the only release for this machine) and thats why the X-5000 is slower than expected (after update2 I dont see much difference though)

2. I saw a new vsata.device in mediatoolbox : what is this for ?

3. in mediatoolbox I have now lots of entries in diskimage.device, all starting with "a500.org diskimage.device" name, all with version DI52. I guess this was silent before or not ?

Anyway THANK YOU Hyperion team and all dev, betatesters, contributors to finally release something after several years of silence ! I hope the OS4 route will continue...

Update...

Originally, I simply applied the update directly to my existing system ...
AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 1 + Enhancer Software v1.5

Clock and Format reverted back to OS4 versions plus changes to startup-sequence and kicklayout.

After some consideration, I decided to do a clean install to get rid of any zombies that might be lurking in my system.

Quick format of SYS: followed by install of FE followed by FE Update 1 followed by FE Update 2.

I had to update AmiSSL, NetInterface, startup-sequence, user-startup and my AmiDock config.

I will let the system soak for awhile before reintroducing any Enhancer Software.

No, it's not. Just kernel is a bit more prepared for. But don't hold your hopes for all those "MULTICOOOOREE E AMIIIIGAAAA". Its to be seen if the support as it will be added of different cores to os4 will give any benefits. Maybe none in end, who knows.

Everything in amigaos4 is beta :) And no, I don't remember drivers being in debug-mode. What ones exactly? I mean what exactly you expect to be faster, but which is slower?

That one from SATA driver (i.e. internal part of p50x0sata.device). As I am aware it just added for easy work with mounter.library and all file systems. I.e. more abstract internal api for internal needs, not of big worry for end-users. For example mounting of devices happens now not inside of p50x0sata.device, but from the vsata.device, the same part monitors disk changes on SATA ports and so on. Just for internal use.

That because you have a disk image device probably on exiting partition which configured wrong or something? I didn't have that one there (while I have a disk image device installed and use it), and a500.org is Frederik's website name who developed a disk image device.

@bennymee

Look here for some earlier discussion about the networking issues: https://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic_id=41988&forum=14&start=20&viewmode=flat&order=0#832141

But I think I will pass updating, gave up on AOS4.x anyway, Classic is were the stuff is happening nowadays. I changed my hardware and removed the Mediator. Now using a ZZ9000, which can be made to work for video on AOS4.1, but nt sure about the networking part. Only then I may give it another go.

The usual problem...

People are posting issues on AW, amiga.org, OS4welt, Amigans, etc and not reading what the other sites are reporting.

Example:It was suggested on one site to use "snoopy", when another site had clearly indicated that snoopy no longer functioned, which is simply the usual issue when a new dos.library is released.

I see a lot of "solutions" and places to download new files discussed.

Kas1e is certainly monitoring all sites and will assemble the best information possible and let people know how to address all this. Please be patient.

I would suggest when done that a general listing be cross posted to all sites so people don't have to run all over the place for answers.

@All

Yeah, number6 is right: I monitor those sites for all bug reports:

amigaworld.net, amigans, amiga.org, os4welt, ppa.pl, amigaone.pl, exec.pl, amiga.org.ru and eab.abime.net.

So please describe all the problems better, with step-by-step guides, etc, I will collect everything and be sure it all fits into Bugzilla.

@kas1e

Bugs were reported literally years ago. It’s well known that Roadshow in OS4 is outdated and buggy, it’s just plain obvious when you look at how many releases Roadshow for 68k has had in the meantime. I asked Olsen many times for updated Roadshow for OS4, but he always said it was up to Hyperion to organize updates. Now they did, but apparently Roadshow was left out. I have similar experiences as spudje, and I have tried with many different NICs. These problems were fixed years ago on 68k Roadshow...

It might be helpful before reporting an issue if you offer your system information as well.

Who said we didn’t?

And why, for f... sake, can't we have publically available bug tracker where we can follow up and supplement logs etc.

@kolla

In case you did not notice, cg asked Olaf if he was still working on OS4 over on AmigaNews.

Since Olaf responded, you might be able to ask your question over there and get a more current response.
