Stefano has created a great install guide for getting Open Video Toaster working on a Vampire based Amiga 1200.

@DiscreetFX

That shaking video is hardly a recommendation for a video software.

Sadly he didn't show lightwave running.

Something is better than nothing. We are prepping some cool videos too. That version of LightWave 3D does not work without the Amiga Video Toaster hardware.

What can you do you do with Toaster siftware if you don't have the hardware?

@Rob

Some light Video Toastering.

:)

On a serious note you can play around with the interface and the CG and ToasterPaint. Hopefully in the future it can be a lightweight easy to use video editing solution.

@DiscreetFX

If it supported other video source it might help, I think time is right for USB web camera support, maybe we should port V4L API, can make it easier to port over video drivers from Linux.

@DiscreetFX

I've been planning to add these source archives to Aminet for ages. What license has this stuff been released under?

@cgutjahr

I can go ahead and update the license and then upload to Aminet.

How does everyone like the Open Video Toaster website? Any suggestions for improvement? I strive to make it a great place to visit for all things related to the Amiga Video Toaster and the open source effort and news related to that code.

@cgutjahr

As far as the licensing of the code, that's up to me but I welcome your feedback. What license do you recommend for Open Video Toaster? Suggestions are appreciated and welcome.

This message is not only for cgutjahr, anyone can give their opinion on open source licensing if they have valuable input to share.

@DiscreetFX

Does the Open Source release on the Open Video Toaster website include the last version of Lightwave for the Amiga, for those of us that have an Amiga or two that have real Video Toaster cards in them? I mean the version 5.5, or 5.8, or what ever the last unofficial version of Lightwave for the Amiga was. I know that Lightwave has been reported to Not work, unless you have a real Video Toaster card installed in your Amiga system, so it can't work in any emulated Amiga system. Correct me if I am wrong.

That's a great question there Dave! I sold off all my Toaster stuff yet still have left one Toaster 2000 card and was wondering what, if anything, I can do with it using Open Video Toaster.

@amigadave

The version of LW3D on the ISO which you can download for free via the link below requires a real NewTek Video Toaster card to work. That won't be changing anytime soon if ever.

All video processing takes place inside of the Toaster iself with the Amiga acting as the control system and providing genlock graphics for the wipe effects, titling or any and graphics you want to overlay on the video. A webcam or any other capture device will be digitising video and that is not something the Toaster software is designed to deal with.

@discreetFX,

Read my post again, and you'll see that I already know that a Video Toaster card is required to run Lightwave 3D for any Amiga version. My question was which version is included from the Open Video Toaster site, as I was hoping that the people responsible for the site were able to get the last Amiga version of Lightwave 3D, which should be version 5.5, or 5.8, iirc. I'm pretty sure that the original 4.3 version of the ISO of the Video Toaster software only included a high version of 4.x, or low version of 5.x, of Lightwave 3D software, but don't currently have a Classic Amiga with Zorro slots and a Video Slot, to check which version is included on my 4.3 Toaster software CD.

I'm just trying to get a legal copy of the last version of Lightwave 3D for the Amiga, to use with my Video Toaster/Flyer system, when I get a chance to set it up again.

@amigadave

Hello again, it's DiscreetFX, not discreetFX.

We (DiscreetFX) are responsible for the source code on Open Video Toaster. At least in the sense of keeping it available on the web for Amiga Video Toaster fans to enjoy. LW3D is not open source so the version on the OVT site is a binary-only version that requires Video Toaster hardware. It's the last bundled version released by NT for the convenience of loyal Video Toaster/Flyer customers so it is included. Personally, I love the Amiga Video Toaster and LW3D but am not a programmer so can't update the (Amiga Video Toaster)code. If someone does want to update the source I'm glad to provide input on what should be enhanced and updated.

I do believe that you’re right and LW3D stand-alone (Amiga version) has a newer version of the rendering software. You would have to source a legal original version from eBay or some other site selling used original software. Please let me know if you have further questions, I'm glad to help.

@Rob

If the source code to the Amiga Video Toaster is updated by uber-cool Amiga ASM coders, who knows what great features it could gain.
