It seems that someone recently received his AAA bundle kit.....at last.

Tabor should be with us anytime soon? Too little, too late? Let's see.

@portarinos

It’s never too late for a glossy shoe box to turn the tide!

Come on ACube we’re waiting for both the 460cr and the A1222: to paraphrase Armageddon

I think it’s just called the A1222 now. They should really just ship this soon before it’s made completely irrelevant by high Vampire V4 sales. Or just lower the price of the X5000 if that’s possible.

Vampire and A1222 target two different markets.

I know that Tabor is called A1222 but, does it really make any difference if the product doesn't hit the market any time soon? Even if I have already contributed to the Early adopters program, I really think that interest is slowly "evaporating". I also have a V1200 and did buy a V4 which I sold almost immediately but I think that we are really talking about different target groups and products. A bit unfair comparison if you ask me.

Yes and No

Both are targetting the same group of people (interest in amiga) and there are limited resources (money and space) si I think the delay of Tabor harms the Tabor sales because you can buy V2 and V4 already. Others will simply loose interest at all.

Υou are partially right! Both products indeed target the same audience however they do not address the same "needs" and/or expectations. It is a matter of taste: 68k vs PPC. Both architectures seem to be pretty much dead to be honest but who cares anyway? This is a hobby after all.

Does anyone know what is happening with the A1222? Any news?

Visited the official webpage, but the last update was December 7th 2020. According to the page, delivery was estimated to the second quarter of 2021.

I suppose we'll get our annual update in October.

It's hard for AmigaOS4 users to have much hope for future development, unless Trevor and A-Eon can somehow wrestle the rights to develop AmigaOS4 away from Hyperion and consolidate all future development of AmigaOS4 under one entity again (specially since A-Eon is willing to fund future development, where Hyperion does not seem to be willing or able to fund anything but more lawsuits).

I think many AmigaOS4 users have already given up and returned to enjoying 68k Amiga systems and software, I know I have. There certainly seems to be much more interest and both hardware and software projects for 68k, than there is for PPC and AmigaOS4. But for those die hard users of AmigaOS4, I'll not wish any further delays, or problems for them, I just can't follow that path any further myself, so I have sold my AmigaOS4 system, and plan to return to the pure fun of original 68k Amiga goodness (with a bit of MorphOS thrown in for more modern, but still retro Amiga flavored fun).

@amigadave

I switched more to emulation, I think I will likely keep my X1000, but the bugs and little issue is more the reason I switch.

I need a day or two likely to do a big clean, fresh install and re-setup my system, and what time I have for Amiga stuff I finding my fix/fun on Amikit XE.

I think when ever the next big software release comes out for X1000 / OS4 markets comes out thats likely to be the extra push I need to do it, but there not much on the horizon i see coming.

maybe Wings

If price was everything, then yes.

if price is not everything, hardware and OS experience is different, as well as type of software you can run, something people who buy product should know before buying.

Vampire V4 is nice little computer, with good classic software support, with @200mhz class CPU, no 3D support.

the Tabor is a system with wherry limited support classic software, but can run newer software for PowerPC, system can also run number emulators, but primary its system you buy if you want a faster system, and are willing to give up on some of compatibility.

@amigadave

If a lot have given up, there should be more user NG machines for sale. There aren't many or nearly nothing.

Not necessarily. I hardly count as a user, but when my interest in NG waned, I couldn't really bring myself to sell my machines. I imagine there are many more like me than those who took the plunge, and sold their NG h/w. I might have to that in the near future though, as I'm very short on space.

@bennymee

It is rather true that the scarcity of second hand NG systems doesn't prove the assumption that most NG users abandoned the ship. Anyhow, I got my AAA shoebox goodies a month ago and I'm left asking myself if I still need the A1222. Probably not but as with all things Amiga, I will buy it in the end if it ever gets in production. Just for the fun of building a new system from scratch.

Well, AeonKit is developing their own Amiga OS replacement…

https://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=44226&forum=14&start=80&viewmode=flat&order=0#843340

…but it will still take a long time for ”System 54” to become a useable stand-alone product. MorphOS started off more than two decades ago to do just that. It is today the best, most mature Amiga NG OS in existence. It has taken time! And the MorphOS Team had unique access to the best Amiga standards for a head start (like MUI, Poseidon, CGX, etc) as well as the brightest developers still existing in this community. It will be interesting to see AeonKIt trying to walk in MorphOS footsteps inventing the wheel for yet another time. And it won’t be called AmigaOS 4 of course, so it remains to be see how many of the name followers (still here) will accept this new OS? “System 54” could perhaps suffice as a name? Or maybe they plan to make use of their computer mouse trademark scheme they have going now, and call it “THEA1200” with a checkmark?

I gave up on Tabor and anything to do with AmigaOS4 and whatever new things they have in mind (another OS? really?). I rather wait for MorphOS x64.
