So since this old thread, I did get a 6 month sub to Amiga addict for birthday present, after 4 issues so far, I think I do slightly prefer Amiga future, like a previous comment pointed out, Amiga future covers a bit more of what’s going on in the Amiga world now, don’t get me wrong addict does too, but just feel the balance of looking back to looking forward for me personally is better in Amiga future and me being more interested in what’s next for Amiga world I think I would go back to that mag.

I do wish both would maybe offer cheaper pdf versions or at least when they go out of print or are say 6months old cut the price of the mag maybe.

I really like Amiga Addict, the mag crew are doing a great job and Simulant Systems behave like a professional entity, so I'll keep buying. But as you're saying, balance is necessary so I've just ordered a yearly subscription for Amiga Future as well

@amigang

Chris Wilkins owns the Zzap!64 / Amiga trademark as I recall now.

I have been getting the issues since the first Annual in 2019 was released. Currently get Fusion, Zzap!64, Zzap!Amiga and Crash by them, and Freeze64 by Vinny Mainolfi (a brilliant fanzine that has been running now for over 4 years).

Vinny has ex Zzap staffer Julian Rignall contributing regularly to it as well.

Me, I even have a chance to ask for more amigaos4 news and stuff in their letters corner:

(click for full size image):

Yesterday I received issue#2 , and well... It's fully OS3 based. Same as Amiga Addict 2 issues of which I got recently. The only real magazine which covers everything it's Amiga Future.

The Bitronic company went under towards the end of 2021, taking their website with them. Some of their products (manuals mainly) have been provided as free download, but the future of their magazines is uncertain. I hear that Amiga NG (a Polish-only magazine focusing on the NG systems) is making arrangements with a new publisher, but don't know about the rest.

Yes. Amiga Addict even compained in the latest issue that nothing is really happening in the NG world, which as we know is not exactly true. I think they simply miss writers who would follow and cover the next-gen scene.

They just do not follow it. Even those ones who primarily use MorphOS or AROS think nothing happens on OS4 and the same as we who use OS4 as the main one think nothing happens in AROS and MorphOS (well there 2 exceptions: wayfarer and iris). All the news coming to those oses happens mostly on related sites, so those ones who do not know about amigans.net and os4depot of course know nothing about os4 progress. And those who didn't know about aros-exec know nothing about AROS, and those who don't know about morphzone know nothing about morphos (with the exception of wayfarer/iris maybe)

They are simply not interested in it. And that is ok, but then why wrote that they cover everything :) I offer my help to AmigaAddict about writing about amiga-ng and have no answer about the back.

Of course, there is no big activity, but interesting things happen all the time. Just not as big and massive ones as one want it to be maybe. For example some Enhancer components are worth of few articles for sure. OS4 latest update is well worth a few articles, and so on. That all just depends on wish.

Which is a bit ironic because they use an X1000 to typeset the magazine But I understand that they have a strong Classic Amiga following, so finding an NG-knowledgeable editor is not a priority.

@Mod3mski

Thank you for the information. I have updated the table accordingly.

@Trixie

Thanks for posting this information about Amiga User. Hopefully AmigaNG is able to assist.

@All

Until such time Amiga User is able to return I have removed them from the table.

Also what is the latest issue of aMiGa=poWeR?

@kas1e

We are more than happy to cover NG stuff, it's interesting to all of us. The real difficulty is getting people who want to write about it - most of the articles that are submitted to us are for current software and hardware for 'classic', and the odd thing for Vampire etc. We do publish what we get, like the Icaros Desktop article back in Issue 5.

I'm not going to write about the subject based on copying from articles online - it's not my area of expertise and that wouldn't make good content for the mag. I will however try and widen my net news-wise to pick up more. The odd thing pops up from my current sources but not a lot, but maybe things are slipping through the net, and I'm out there searching most days.

I had a word with Jonah about the contact you mentioned as we pride ourselves on maintaining professional communications with our readership. He said he had received that e-mail early on in our run and replied inviting contribution, but it hadn't gone anywhere. So maybe that got lost in transit/translation? Regardless, if you have anything to offer, send it in to magazine@amiga-addict.com, it would really help us broaden our content, and we're all about that.
