Thanks. The term ‘cornered rat’ springs to mind or indeed ‘a piranha in a drying puddle’!

My advice; don’t get involved, don’t invest in AmigaOS 3.2 right now, wait for the death pangs to end and no one else gets hurt. Sad, but it didn’t need to end like this. AmigaKit are right to wait on the sidelines and we should too IMHO.

Just a head's up for anyone who ordered from the U.S.:

Thanks guys!

I have many times thought of coming back.
But the price of a OS4 machine coupled with the time I have
to put into it… Feels like wasted money!

This great update and more or less promised updates to it
is a great step back to Amiga.
This way I can try and see if I can put some more time to it without
breaking the bank.

Btw any recommended way to use emulation? WinUAE?
Maybe buy Amiga Forever?

@Trekiej

Some people never looked back; some people regrated selling everything.

Keep one or two original’s, just in case.

Just a few tips based on reading several websites:

(1)At least 1 dealer ships the CD, but does not have the Roms. So if you order the Roms as well, the entire order might be held up. I suggest checking with your dealer.

(2)The registration number is attached to the plastic film. Believe it or not, reports are that people are throwing away the packaging without saving the registration number. Don't do that.

(3)You presently can not register this product on Hyperion's website anyway.

So patience I guess...

@NutsAboutAmiga

One of the things I want to do is test-drive Professional Software.
My primary Amiga A600 is good at creating ADF's.

I then can run them on a highly expanded emulated machine.

Too late, I already ordered AmigaOS 3.2 A500 (for my brother) and A1200 ROMs.

Inaction development from Amiga Inc is less than ideal.

It is possible now to register OS3.2 at hyperion-entertainment.com.
It still says 'disk version' for the moment.

I got my copy today. Went to the Hyperion site and registered.
No problem.

REALLY stupid to put the serial number sticker on the plastic package.
But I managed to peal it off and put it on the inside of the disc cover case.

Btw while waiting I bought the Amiga Forever kit to get started with
emulation and to get all the OSes and ROMs. Really nice package I must
say. Can’t remember installing something this complex and still making
it seem simple. Although you have literally thousands of options in the
settings..

Then I found out I could run OS4 through emulation.
So I bought the OS4 for classics as well.. Big spender hehe..

Spent quite a long time setting up OS4.1 FE on my Amiga Forever.
Worked quite nice actually. But then I chose the auto update feature.
It tried to install Update 1. Crashed the filesystem somehow.. Will need
to redo everything.. Then also setup OS3.2.
I have this weekend secured..

@sundown

Thanks.. Really long time since I was here.. The years pass by so
quick.

It’s a mixed bag actually.. Nice to see quite a lot of people still using
Amiga and releasing software.

The modern Amigas seem stuck in the same slow update circle it
was back when I was still here.. Yes some updates are great but the
time they have taken?? The rest of the world hasn’t stood still meanwhile..

Bad priorities by Hyperion it seems.. They should concentrate on the
important parts.. Like groundwork for porting to other platforms.
A really good modern browser is a must..
x86 is still the best way to go.. Cheapest hardware, fastest hardware,
largest code base and access to most big software for easier porting.
IMO of course..

As long as people are having fun IMHO. Porting efforts on their own will not be enough to secure a future on x86. People can already use RabbitHole if they want to merge emulation with x86 apps and good bowsers etc. At least AmigaKit and A-EON and even Hyperion are actually producing new products. The resurgence of 68k and FPGA Amigas is great IMHO.

Im not investing in Hyperion or Cloanto any more until they both sort there shit out. This crap has gone on far to long. Long live Apollo OS

Yeah I am still here and helping out where I can, keeping out of the Politics. Just enjoying my Classics and NG machines and making them run as best I can.

I enjoy the software updates coming on all sides and of course all the new cool accelerators and other hardware projects! It's really amazing work!

Currenly I'm fighting an issue with write and checksum errors on my Cyberstorm MK2 SCSI module....but I think I finally have a stable configuration....I did the 100MHz hack and it runs very fast :)

Nice! It’s all about those mini victories! I tried to respray an old graphics tablet and have done other peripherals before and always end up touching a part of it! I know that it demands patience but I never have enough sadly It looks ok now but it’s taken over a week to dry because my touch up used too much paint rather than thin coats! I dare not repaint an entire Amiga case as I’d make a hash of it! All good fun though! Even started painting it before I checked whether it worked!

The UK is experiencing a heat wave right now and with a fan on it full blast all weekend it is still a bit tacky! The temptation to put it directly in the sun is immense but that would lead to bad results I’m told. It is spray paint designed for plastic. I think I’m going to have to by a top coat finish to protect it from scrapes and knocks after all this effort!

We're getting far OT here, but just a quick hint:

There was a problem with installing Update 1 through AmiUpdate, so it is safer to install it manually, i.e. download it without auto-installing, then unpack it and run its installer directly.

After that, it should be fine to let AmiUpdate install Update 2 and the subsequent single updates.

Best regards,

Niels

Yes, of course!
But what’s the point of OS4 if not to progress to again be useful
as a main computer for users?

If not then further development of OS3 would be better for the ”fun” part.
We have better hardware today to make it run alot faster.
Coding efforts would stay with one platform instead of split to several.

Btw what is actually missing from OS3/4 to make it useful as a main
computer? Other than a fully featured browser?

Thanks, will try that.

Cloanto actually recommended manual update as you say.
I just tried it because the update came up when I tried the feature.
Didn’t know about any issues.
