when Amiga Inc first sued Hyperion in 2005

You mean 2007.

Quote:
they did this becouse Hyperion failed to deliver the product on time

the word "final" triggered the lawsuit, and it was inevitable the day would come when that label would be applied.

Quote:
Amiga Inc did not have the money to pay for all the work that was agreed.

Billionaire Pentti Kouri at the time didn't have the remaining pittance?

Quote:
this resulted in a settlement agreement.

Pentti Kouri died. That's the -only- reason Hyperion didn't go bankrupt at the time and the only reason why the parties reached settlement.

There was never a disagreement about the actual price - and AInc actually did pay the required amount of money. The disagreement was about a lot of other things.

Cool news.

But I think a 3.2 release has to be followed up by a Walker release and I don't see that coming out of nowhere

It's not listed so why bet?

It's not as important to have TCP/IP as it may have been when 3.5 and 3.9 were released. A lot of users don't need it or already have it covered so it would be a waste of money to include one.

It’s not really a OS selling feature but the new Reaction based Show Config screen looks a lot better than the simple text output!

Show Config Screenshot

Looks better? A pointless noninteractive GUI that now is default? I wished for ShowConfig to have output that could more easily be parsed, and even LFORMAT option, rather than a built in dependency on reaction classes. With this, all scripts ever that used the only system tool that can show hardware listing, will have to be rewritten? Awesome.

@kolla

Some people are smarter than you and already preempted your concerns - when run from command line it will output plain text just as it always has.

@Mobileconnect

That is what I would have suggested, but not what Gulliver suggested somewhere - an option to not get GUI - the faq say the opposite though.

The fact that a useless GUI was prioritized over output formatting says that perhaps those so called smarter people aren’t so smart after all.

The most modern browser for the 68k Amiga is NetSurf which uses Reaction, a new feature added to AmigaOS 3.2. It would be interesting to hear how well NetSurf works with AmigaOS 3.2 Reaction as development would be easier with better compatibility to the AmigaOS 4 Reaction.

Well, I've taken the plunge and ordered it, so we'll see. It should fix all the annoying bugs in the classes I was working around/ignoring. If this is the case I may make it require 3.2/v47 as a minimum - it will remove a lot of horrid OS3 branches.

Something which is interesting from the FAQ that I wasn't aware of, is that P96 has a "native" driver, so I need to test that as I can get rid of a lot of OS3 specific graphics code if it works OK.

It's not a CBM one - just an Amiga Technologies one.

It will add taxes and shipment fees..

I would consider waiting.. I heard development for AmigaOS 3.3 has already started. Does it make sense to spend money twice?

Besides you have to copy some libraries from OS3.9 to OS 3.2 because some software requests it.

I think you should stick with OS3.9 at least until 3.x is completely compatible to 3.9.

Also if you plan to buy it for the new A1200 you just got, remember it has the 3.0 ROM and it is a Commodore machine, this new OS is not coming from Commodore. It might brick your newly aquired A1200. And if you buy the CD, you will need a CD-ROM.

Also #2, I read in the FAQs that you can not simply copy the files over, it is more complicated than that.
I think Ben should have put a warning in the announcement for this. And also warn us, that you need a CD-ROM drive to install the CD-ROM version. It might seem obvious to most, but people returning to the Amiga after 20 years of so, might have forgotten.
Bad choice Ben!

Why do you think my friend didn’t have a CD-Rom as part of his stash? He had a Zip Drive too I’d need to upgrade to 3.1 Roms to use OS3.9 anyway so I might as well just get the OS3.2 Kickstart Roms and try out the new OS! Maybe TFX runs on 3.2 as I could never get it to run on OS3.9! Swings and roundabouts

@Amigo1

... also the integrated ADF mounting features are a pretty big deal. Maybe it’s the ideal WHDLoad/run your converted floppies from mounted ADFs game machine?

The more I think about it the more it seems like an acceptable means to an end and I understand why people are prepared to ‘work’ with Hyperion to get things done. What’s the alternative? Piracy with CoffinOS or AROS which has zero traction in a crowded Amiga-like market?
