With the official news of TheA500 retro computer coming out next year, and announcement of some of the games it will come with, I thought it's a fun exercise to ask what games YOU would choose if it were up to you!?
Aside from the obvious constraints of whether the original rights holder will even entertain the idea of letting you have it, and for licensed properties (e.g. Batman the Movie, or even the original Space Hulk) it's probably not worth the effort
What criteria would you use?
For me I think you'd want: * Games that haven't been officially available on other platforms lately (i.e. no Lemmings, Flashback, see note below however*) * Games that still have great playability now, and don't look completely dated, though this might rule out any game with 3D at all * Games where the best, if not only, version was the Amiga version * Where there were multiple editions of a game, or sequels and such, you want the definitive version i.e. Speedball 2, or Worms DC * Games from a variety of publishers/developers so it's not all just Bitmap Bros and Team17 * Games that are different genres from the others in the bundle so it's not all football games * Accessible to all ages * and finally, new games not available during the original Amiga lifetime
N.B. * Obviously Another World has been re-done to death in recent years but apart from that the choices made by Retro Games in my mind definitely fill those criteria. Speedball 2 for iOS hasn't been available for several years for example. Unfortunate for them that Zool is about to get a remaster! Also I think this is why we're getting AB3D and not ABSE, although it'd be nice to have Tower Assault instead
That said my choices, above and beyond the ones they've already announced, would be:
* Last Ninja 3 * Laser Squad or Sabre Team * Obviously any or all of the Turricans except their recent rerelease on modern consoles makes that not quite a no-brainer * Populous 2 * Paradroid 90 * Project X SE * Syndicate * Putty or Putty Squad * Weird Dreams, just because it's such a trip * Sleepwalker * Liberation Captive 2 * D/Generation * Hired Guns * The Sentinel * Night Shift, as the best example of a Lucasarts game that was best on the Amiga. OK, the licensing situation might be a problem for this one... * Walker or Killing Game Show * Corporation * Katakis * Robocod * Jungle Strike * Pipemania * First Samurai * X-Out * Rocket Ranger * Banshee * SWIV * Super Skidmarks * Lost Vikings * Chip's Challenge * Apidya or Agony * Armour-Geddon or Carrier Command or Battle Command * Baal * BAT or BAT II * Frontier * Battle Isle * Heimdall * Dungeon Master 2: Chaos Strikes Back * Cruise for a Corpse, Operation Stealth, or Future Wars * Dreamweb * Exile AGA/CD32 * Gem'X _________________
