@Thread

The perceived expectation Amigans feel about different Amiga products right now is jarring:

Apollo Team: Fairly quiet about Icedrake and FireBird accelerator cards.
Amiga Community Deduction: They are working hard behind the scenes and the card will be mass produced to meet target release windows.

Retro Games Ltd: They announce 'The A500 Mini' with a case, mouse and controller mockup and open pre-orders for release 2022!
Amiga Community Deduction: This is being developed by Retro Games Ltd, which previously released a mini version of the Commodore 64. They can be trusted to deliver on price, quality and release window! Exciting!

Compare both with...

A-EON Team: They are still deathly quiet about the A1222 Plus and legal issues and dispute with Hyperion seems to worsen (AmigaKit: an A-EON partner, disengage completely from selling Hyperion products) and all the while Early Adopter backers are still left disappointed.
Amiga Community Deduction: They are struggling to bring this computer to market despite A-Cube's support! And not forgetting the 7 years since the initial development started! Therefore, this is a dead duck and 'beta-tester-ware' only! Get excited at your peril! Unless like Steve Solie anything and everything excites you! Don't even expect AmigaOS 4 on this machine but a prototype AmigaKitOS hybrid! Hyperion, A-EON and AmigaKit have presumably stopped working together. A software kludge is required from Trevor and Matthew to over-ride the Hyperion impasse! This is bad news for the end users and the product no longer trumps MorphOS as the 'official' option!

Yeah, let’s hope for a positive A1222 Plus announcement! All the better if I’m proved wrong and a new precident is set.

I vote AKitOS for the new OS name. Sounds exotic and cool

@IridiumFX

What is AmigaKitOS hybrid? Never heard of it. I know it won't be running MorphOS as the MorphOS developers don't intend to port to the the A1222.

This is a bit mean to someone who is just trying to keep the dream alive and spent so much to try and improve the Amiga market, not just to OS4 but he backed many Amiga projects, yes he guilty of over optimistic with release dates but most of what he promised come out, the stuff that hasn't happened usually out of his control, like OS4.2 and speed of software developments, if you guys can do better then go right ahead.

My biggest concern has and always was PPC, even when i bought the X1000 i felt the future of the Os4 platform on PPC was a bit of a worry with Apple and all other big supporters moving away from the platform.

I want OS4 to be successful, and it pretty impressive now to see things like DVplayer run 4K video, Octamed OS4, Libera Office OS4, Warp Nova improvements etc,

I just worry about this great work being stuck on PPC. thats my only issue with the project.

Not a bad name! It could be read A Kit[ten] OS, which alludes to the AROS black cat mascot, which would be kind of clever given the fact that the new OS will consist of much Open Source code according to Matthew Leman! A small AROS offspring!

The idea that you can only criticize something "if you can do better" is a nonsensical argument.

@amigang

There are multiple paths, that can be taken, the question is what order.

A) 32bit -> 64bit
B) 32bit -> SMP (AmigaOS4)
C) PPC -> ARM
D) PPC -> x64 (MorphOS)

A) I can’t think of any good argument for it.

B) Will enable more CPU power, and a lot things will improve.

C) Going ARM bigger market, can use big endian, in some form.

D) Going x64, maybe the days are numbered, reducing CPU power, not environmentally friendly, imagine a carbon tax on x64. (Too hot, take lot of energy, noisy, eats batters like butter.)

C and D requiered recompile of all applications, (or a JIT compiler, maybe get 15-30% of CPU power of the native CPU. (but really a lot less with out SMP.)).

I think constructive criticize, like pointing out worries, issues, problems, etc is ok, but unhelpful criticize and acting like you/me or anyone could of done better is what I have issue with and I just got that feeling from some of the comments.

Plus at least Trevor gives some kind of update, where is Hyperion? Why no OS4.2 roadmap or what's being work on right now etc.

There is difference between being over optimistic once and just keeping promising things. Most of people here would be capable to learn from mistakes.

@JimIgou

It’s Enhancer release version 54 which can initiate a fresh install grabbing some resources from AmigaOS4.1 but replacing key systems libraries etc with AmigaKit updated versions. Sounds like an OS fork to me! Better that Hyperion sell out than let AmigaKit usurp them as the lead OS developer by default!

Irrespective of how good someone's intentions are, they can still be doing an absolute crap job at executing. I am able to separate the two: I can applaud the dream, and I can boo the reality.

Quote:

Placing us all at equal footing?
You, me, and many others could very well just be average members of society, with very similar day-to-day concerns and demands. Is Trevor just one of us?

I'm confident that if I had the same resources, I could have done better. And I'm willing to go as far to say that there would be a significant number of others who could've done better were they to have the same starting capital.

I can applaud Trevor's initiative and the investment of resources he has committed for over a decade now, but I can also be critical of the decisions he and his organisation has made.
I may not run an Amiga related business, but I do run several technology businesses, and have some leg to stand on to "call the game" the way I see it.

FYI, Mac Mini M1 has 39 watts.

Desktop PCs that meet the "highly expandable" requirement are exempt from California Energy Commission (CEC) Tier 2 implementation.

Two of my gaming PCs mentioned in my sig fulfill the "highly expandable" requirement e.g. increase USB 3.x port count and many lanes PCIe slots. PC builder can add many USB 3.x port cards to fulfill the "highly expandable" requirement.

California Energy Commission (CEC) Tier 2 removes gimped gaming PCs from DELL e.g. Aurora R10 and R12.

PCIe Version 5.0 includes 600 watts specs. LOL

Thank you Trevor for your A1222 update. Thank you for all your support.

Thank you eliyahu for your A1222 demo. I am very impressed.

I waited until after AmiWest to take this poll, however none of the answers express my views on this subject.

I want the A1222 Plus project to succeed.

@agami

I think the only serious mistake was selecting the wrong CPU, just because it was cheap.
