No, the developer's release of the OS fo the Cyrrus+ board did contain SFS, but not NGF (yet); the latter one was made available when the board became available for the greater audience, however, for reasons concerning licence agreements, support for SFS was withdrawn.

Thanks for your reply.

Ah, okay - didn't know that. I came on board the X5k train a little later for the beta phase of the /040.

Then I believe the problem was that SFS was not supporting kernels above a certain version number or something?

Edit: No, that can't be it either, I have 1.290 on my X1000 with a recent beta kernel, and my SFS volumes work fine there, some of them being SFS\02. Sorry, not sure what the issue is then.

Best regards,

Niels

@OldFart

You're welcome.

BTW, Hyperion lost the sfs license, but didn't the A-Eon Enhancer have sfs as part of the package?

If you have Enhancer...

problem solved?

Only time will tell...

Will be back here with any news I can come up with regarding the subject.

Thanks

@All contributants

Hi folks! This problem has been solved. Got my Enhancer pack from AmiKit this afternoon, copied the SmartFileSystem over to my current Kickstart directory and rebooted.

All of a sudden I was presented with some 40 (!) volumes on my WB-screen, with a LOT of duplicate names, as I tend to give volumes a meaningfull name. The conclusion is that I have a consistent way of naming volumes... =.

While going through the offending Kickstart setup, which by the way was caused by the omission of a FULLY BLANK line (a semi-colon (;) does not yield a FULLY BLANK line) between two layouts in Kickstart.layout, I found a version of SmartFileSystem with the exact same version number of the one from the Enhancer pack. Well, such is life.

Thanks all for your contributions!

OldFart

P.s.: I can now boot into the Developers Release, the first regular release and the latest, updated release. This is what I like.

@OldFart

Yes a semi-colon would designate a comment and so wouldn't be considered a blank line even if it does nothing. Always thought that blank lime acting as a delimiter was a tad touchy. Especially as no Kickstart editor is supplied to ensure the format is correct.

Go deeper with SFS. Yes the version number might be the same. But when I looked up the full version string it listed AEON.

Looks like they brought back the developers release. This seemed strange to me, as I was checking mine out for some old SDK files, and associate developers release with an early XE pre-release version of OS4.0. OS4 has been out of beta for many years since!

Yep, and I hold an HD here from my MicroA1 days. The SFS/0 and SFS/2 partitions I can now access: nice!
But there are also quite some JXF/4 partitions on that drive and I wonder what those partitions behold.

And then I have an 'ElBox'-ed A1200 and that one holds 2 HD's: an IDE and a SCSI one. Wonder what it is what they behold...

I think they banned that in FE. It stopped being worked on. It was the premiere 64 bit filesystem at the time and supposedly replacing SFS/2. But likewise had no rug under its feet as if something goes wrong there are no recovery tools and you are lucky if you can copy other files off it. Joerg didn't give him self a good reputation either with software like Parition Wizard that hacked into the OS and peeked around objects to check for code it didn't like. And his programs are paranoid binaries as all text is encrypted which is weird and abnormal even on Amiga.

I'd be backing those up even just to see what files were left behind. IDE is easy as a HDD to USB dock can plug directly into an OS4 machine. SCSI is harder, unless you have a SCSI PCI card, as finding a SCSI HDD dock would be rarer and expensive.
