@NutsAboutAmiga
Best things about the Amiga...

1. security through obscurity
2. no competitive Amiga hardware means no need to ever upgrade which saves money
3. one of the most advanced computers with high resistance to an EMP for WWIII *

* OCS uses a 5000nm chip process from about 1973 and even the AGA Lisa uses a 1500nm chip process from 1981. In comparison, the current state of the art chip process is 5nm. CBM's cheapness gives a more robust chip with larger gaps, bigger wires, larger transistors, etc. which should be more tolerant of ElectroMagnetic Pulses.

Light's Out, the Return of the Amiga (movie script)
China fried everything electronic. We're Doomed!
Hey, wait. This old computer. It still works! We're saved!
There are some letters under that dust. Wipe it off.
A...M...I...G...A
Doesn't that mean girlfriend in Spanish?
My father told me a story about an Amiga computer. They were some under performance computer from the '80s. Nothing like my Raspberry Pi 1000.
Wow! That booted faster than my Raspberry Pi 1000 before the EMP took it out.
We need to get on the HAM radio and tell everyone to look for Amigas.
I'm always looking for Spanish Amigas. It's those Chinese Amigas you have to watch out for.
Wait. This Amiga says something about a HAM mode. Maybe there is a HAM radio built in?
There is also a Doom icon. I suppose that would spell our Doom too?

@NutsAboutAmiga

I voted 'gaming', but 'development and community' was close behind.

@NutsAboutAmiga,

It is how smooth it runs, A PC is a bit sudden/jerky, Amiga is very smooth and integrated. A bit of settings can make it just like you need, and everything is there easily.

The OS allows a programable key combo and there you are.
This did or does not happen in windows and the responsiveness sucks.

Win 10 is better, but still not really that good.

@NutsAboutAmiga

- The video editing.
- Genlocks (VHS Production)
- Music production.
- Video playback.
- Desktop publishing.
- Gaming.

Once they where good, now they are a thing of the past.

- Development and community

After all that splitting dividing I would not call it a community.

What is still good but sometimes painful are the memories about a time when it was good.

You haven't been to an Amiga meet recently then? Seems a vibrant community to me!

@Cheese

mmmm Pancakes, you know I haven't had any for a while, I'm going to get me self some next week.

that is likely the best thing about Amiga!

But seriously for me its one of the only computer platform I kind of understand where things live under the hood, simple things like the RAM: drive, C: folder, S: folder, LIBS: folder, its just all pretty simple compared to other platform in my mind.

The programs like PPaint / Dpaint also felt simple like MS Paint but you could of course do so much more.

One thing all computers have kind of lost as a feature is you could just use it like a games console, ie never even see the OS, or have to load into Workbench, you just put your games in and off they went. PC & Mac did not have that. I think its why so many people only remember it as a game machine.

Its a computer that had some personality, say with me... GURU, GURU, GURU.

Plus its got a great community, that created things like Aminet, a nearly one stop shop directory for apps, that I think is better than what I find for other platform to this day!

Finally its just still fun to use, which is why Im still here, both Windows, Mac has never given me that feeling, it hard to point to one thing why, but its just a fact.

thats why i will likely remain Amiga nutter 4 life.

@NutsAboutAmiga

We bought our A2000HD bundled with alot of good productivity software, as well as software for kids (colouring books, puzzles and games).

We also purchased Final Copy and many updates including Final Writer 97.

My dream was to purchase a Video Toaster and do some video production as a hobby, but never had the time or money to pursue it. Real life has a way of defining priorities.

Instead, I added some RAM, a CD-ROM drive and flicker-fixer. I used our A2000HD to access the internet over a dial-up service using ppp protocol, AmiTCP/IP and AWeb-II. It was slow, but I was always amazed at what the Amiga could do using a 68000 processor and a small amount of additional RAM.

The best thing about my current system is that I can still run Final Writer 97, as well as software that would never run on my ancient A2000HD.

And I can use e-uae on this system to run some of those old favourites from the good old days.

Better quit before I get too nostalgic.

@kolla

It's kind of sad that the overall experience writing apps with Intuition 30 years ago was better than writing apps with GTK+ today.

Hard to choose only one, but for me personally the best thing about the Amiga is the Demoscene. Therefore chose "Development and Community".

@NutsAboutAmiga

She is and will always be a very good friend. That has never died. I am lucky to have had continuous use of my Amigas since I first purchased them, and they have never let me down. Doesn't matter what I'm up to generally, whenever I switch on the Amiga I get a very happy feeling, and it never has faded. It'll break my heart if there comes a day when I won't have the joy of switching on an Amiga. So really matters not what she is good at, as long as she is there and that floppy drive clicks away like a heart beat feeding my soul.

In 1992, it was all of the above. In 2021? Running Pimiga 2.0 is fun as hell!!!
