As some of you know Daniel works hard to make it happen: a new Swiss Army knife for all users of AmigaOS4 who want to spend a bit more time doing things he does before on Windows/etc but on AmigaOS4.

I was lucky to get a beta preview to beta test and made a video about it for everyone so all can be seen in action how it and what to expect.

So without further ado, there is:

https://youtu.be/lBDXJpmMVCg

Cross the fingers for soon to be released the first version for everyone!

That would be expecting too much Rave is going to start out as a rather basic editor, although the range of features will increase over the next year. Where it already beats the existing Amiga offering is the range of supported audio formats.

@Trixie

Echo effects
Low pass filter, high pass filter, separate drums from high pitch sounds.
Joining two mono sounds into one, converting stereo into mono.

@AmigaMac

I don’t think this replacement for audio evolution, I believe that tool was more for music creation. not for sample sounds.

No, I didn't believe it was, but happen to think about that app anyways. Rave definitely looks great so far and I'm an Audacity fan myself.

It will be good to have fresh sample editor thanks. I have few old 68k ones installed. But rarely use them.

@AmigaMac

It went freeware on OS4. After it was ported to Mac and PC. Then the author ported it to Android and oit really took off.

But, Audio Evolution is not a sample editor, though it may have some limited capability. It's a DAW. Digital Audio Workstation in modern parlance.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Drum separation would be the hardest. I've played with filters they didn't exactly work. However I've had some success with a FIR filter. Usually used to filter out noise, you can work through a process of elimination, removing sounds. I trained one to learn a kick and then was able to subtract from a drum track fairly cleanly. And from then I'll try going from there. Mind you, I'm using 90's house drums which likely came from a drum machine, so it's probably cleaner than real drums. But filtering is rarely perfect and having original backing tracks is best obviously.

I have a few as well, and I really like SoundProbe and SoundFX for the range of functions and effects they provide. It will take some time to get there with Rave. But what use is a program if you can't open modern formats? Most sample libraries of today offer sounds as 24-bit WAV, which SoundProbe can't handle. SoundFX can, but cannot do FLAC. AmiSoundEd opens FLAC, but only in 16-bit. There's always a compromise with old software.

My dev time is too limited to contemplate such a thing anyway. For the same reason, no DAW functionality can be expected: a sample editor is all Rave will ever be.

"Rave" is a good name. Naming software can be harder than it first appears.

You can say that again! It took me ages to come up with a name I liked, as I didn't want to follow the usual pattern of "Audio Something" or "Sound Whatever". I've chosen Rave because it rhymes with "wave" while not being too obvious. And of course because there's an association with the 1990s rave music and parties, a scene that coincided with the Amiga scene.
