| Hi,
In my ongoing quest to access partitions that are using JXFS, I've had a break through!
In my X5000 there are 3 storage devices: 1 - SSD 60 Gb SATA 2 - HD 80Gb 2.5" SATA 3 - HD 10Gb 3.25" IDE (from my former MicroA1) This one is connected to a SiI3114ide controller by using a IDE-to-SATA converter. 4 - A DVD-RW drive, also connected to the Sil3114ide controller.
#3 sports a mixture of all kinds of filesystem including JXFS, the partitions using it however did not show up on WB. Until now! By feeding the JXFileSystem executable to HexView, I found 2 libraries mentioned that are currently no part of KickStart: newfilesystem.resource and disckcache.library. Wherever I looked the first was nowhere to be found, but the latter was and I simply copied it over to my KickStart-setup. This was all about a few weeks ago and I had somewhat forgotten about it, until I fired up the X5000 and was greeted with a number of partitions, I had not seen in ages: all JXFS partitions now show up and are accessible from the latest version of OS4.1 (OS 4.1 Final Edition, update 2) at the time of writing.
Versions: JXFileSystem 4.34 (26-03-2009) diskcatch.library 3.30 (13-10-2008)
I'm now set to copying these partitions over to #2 and/or #1 using NGFS/1 and subsequently removing the drive physically from the system.
I thought it good idea to let you know.
Regards OldFart
Addendum: the partitions will be read-only! This is a boon as the information will remain intact. Last edited by OldFart on 17-Mar-2022 at 07:44 PM.

Thank you!! A few years back I had been trying to get some data off an external JXFS drive and all I could figure out was to boot using the old Final Edition CD ... (and then possibly issuing a command I found in an old magazine which I have since forgotten).
I have left the old HD dormant for a few years, but eventually I will get back to it.

Thanks for sharing. Good effort. The diskcache.library usually sits in Kickstart. At least it does in the Classic Kickstart I just checked. It's not usually missing. |
