Hi folks - I remember borrowing an Amiga 500 from my local user group. It was the first time I used an Amiga extensively. That Amiga came with a disk box packed with Public Domain discs (presumably Fred Fish??)

One game made a huge impression on me - but I've never ran across it since, and don't recall anyone else talking about it. I wonder if someone remembers the game - what it was called - and if there was any backstory about it?

Here's what I remember:
* it was a 3D - first person view - flying around an open world.
* the world was polygon rendered
* it was "War of the Worlds" themed (in style if not name) because in the world there were large aliens/alien ships with big heads and 3(?) legs

I vaguely recall that the game was unfinished - more like a proof-of-concept for a game, or maybe an Alpha version.

Does anyone have any information?

@Cheese

Ah, that could well be it.

I recall the part that impressed me most was the beginning of the game. A polygonal globe of the earth rotated, and you zoom in towards the globe, eventually landing on the surface with this perspective.

I bet there are a hundred more interesting projects that died on the vine like this.

Thanks!

OMG, you are sparking some memories in my head. I got a game that matches your description on a PD disk given to me when I bought my A1000. I can't remember the name. The same disk had a version of Missile Command that I played a lot. Now this will bug me until I remember it, but for sure the floppy is in my basement somewhere.

The one I'm thinking of is "Triclops Invasion".

@robo-ant

Looks a bit EGA-ish with that palette.

@Dave73 (filmamigo?)

You're welcome. As soon as you described it, I knew it would drive me nuts until I found it. Lol!
And you're right, I've not seen anyone talk about that game either. It seems to have disappeared into obscurity.

@Hypex

The colours are garish but memorable. :)

Triclops Invasion Youtube

You could choose between 4 and 5 bit graphics.

Ther is a whole lot you can do with this theme right now if someone knows, Mech Wars could use a refresh, There is a newer game "Generation Zero" but would need to be cut back to work with a heavy 68k on graphics and other places to work with Amiga, it win 7ish. OS4Maybe, port the whatever engine.

In fact any good 2d+ or 3d type game would be good now.....!
